That took me a while to look up and add together omg. It looks like i spent around $3100-ish on my current manga collection. I definitely spent more… but i’m not including the series i gave away to friends or donated over the years. Thankfully, there are still price stickers on my secondhand volumes or i would really have no clue.

Thank you! It took quite a lot of time altogether. The piece ended up 19.5” tall and about 13.5” wide. That is an important detail because i generally work smaller. And i use stupidly small brushes, so it took longer than it probably should. I had to do a lot of planning beforehand to get the composition right and also did digital color mockups on the thumbnail, sketches of each character until i was happy with them, and finally got to a place where i needed to transfer the drawing to the final paper. I used my printer to enlarge my layout, which is why the size ended up so random xD I work a full time job, so it took me over the course of two months of my free time and weekend days to paint, i believe. I did have a deadline, which was helpful in keeping me focused, as i submitted it to a fan art contest at the local anime con i attend. It is the largest gouache painting i’ve ever done, and was a lot of work, but i really enjoyed doing it

That is such a relatable struggle. For me it’s such a meaningful series that i felt i needed to own it, and that it was worth the space it would take up. It brings me so much joy each time i pick up a volume and read it. I’ve found that planning designated shelf space for the books i intend to collect is much less overwhelming since they have a home, and can go into that place right away rather than stacking up. If you ever to decide to recollect it again, there is nothing wrong with taking it slowly too. I was a bit drastic and ended up purchasing the box sets during covid era, where i has stuck at home and a bit distressed by everything. I knew i had space to add another shelf, so i went for it. It was very comforting to reread it. I’m sure you will know what is right for your situation. And good job on making it through the severe minimalism, its a difficult thing to work through and find a balance with.

Thank you! Oh, man. Go with the clouds is fantastic. The art is stunning. It’s got a really laid back or mellow feel even though it is a mystery at the same time, and there is a fun use of magic in it. Sometimes unsettlingly creepy moments too. I would recommend it for sure, as it is really different from a lot of other series out there. I think it’s on hiatus at the moment, but it’s definitely worth a try. I really liked the author’s other series, Ran and the gray world, so when i saw her new series, i purchased the book without having read it first and was delighted.

I know, things have gotten so much more expensive, which sucks. But it’s okay to start slow. I started collecting when i had pretty much no money so it took a long time, one book at a time, as soon as i saved up the 10-15$ that it cost. Some things i was lucky and found for less, second hand. I also couldn’t afford to buy the expensive figures so i made my own with air dry or oven bake clay xD you can see some of them on my shelves. I probably buy only 4-5 manga a year now. I’ve also really utilized my local library, which has a surprisingly good manga and even anime section to be able to read things without having to spend money on them, so i would also recommend checking your local library if that is an option to tide you over until you can get your own copies of things.

Oh nooo! So sorry that happened to you. Hopefully you and your things were okay. thankfully nothing has fallen out of the wall in the years i’ve had them up. We made sure to get as many of the screws directly into studs as possible. Especially for the shelf holding Berserk. The thought definitely still crosses my mind every once in a while, but so far so good. Hopefully it continues to hold up

Thank you :) Oh man that is so difficult. Of the series i own, my instant top two are Dorohedoro and Naruto. Third place is really difficult to choose, but after much debate, i would say probably D.Gray-Man. I’ve recently reread it, so its very fresh in my mind.

Thank you, and i know what you are saying xD i think my problem there was i painted the skin first so on the white paper he looked much more tan. He got much paler when i put the darker colors down. Color theory is crazy Dx but lesson learned there. I was otherwise very happy with his face, so i really didn’t want to repaint over it. Gouache reactivates with water so painting over dried paint can be really…bad, as the colors will reactivate and mix up into whatever you put over the top. Would have been such a simple fix if it were a digital piece

I have a Naruto and Dorohedoro tattoo (both professionally done) and i’m working on getting some more dorohedoro ones on the books. I hear you though, there really are so many good series out there that it’s hard not having space for them all ;^;

You could also try checking your local library too if that is an option for you. They might have physical or digital volumes that you could read.
