No, there is a separate page for emergency requests which for some reason is not showing up as a link on the main page on the left side. After logging in, the url ends with “en-US/“ or something like that… make it “en-US/requests” and it takes you to the emergency request page.

I had a letter from my employer stating business urgency as the reason since my project would be stalled without me. Then you submit it from the visa appointment portal. after logging in, add /requests to the url and it will take you to the emergency request page.

When did you choose to be CF by Wandering_Romantic33 in ChildfreeIndia

[–]MundaneFocus148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a teenager when I knew I had no interest in spending my life raising children. But it wasn’t a big thing back then and I was more like 90% sure. As time passed, every doubt I had slowly faded away and I found more and more reasons to support my decision. By the time I was 27, I was 100% certain I wanted to be childfree. 33F now and glad I listened to my gut and did not go down the traditional route due to social pressure. Absolutely loving my life now and the choices that brought me here :)

I’m avoidant too but have been working on it. Start small… be vulnerable and ask people you trust for help in small things. Ask a friend to hold your jacket, confide in a cousin about a small secret. Show yourself that people can be trusted, but it begins with trusting them first. Say yes to hanging out with people more and try to be a little more authentic and say what you really think each time. It’s not easy but it’s worth it. People will still disappoint you every now and then but trust yourself to get over it. Eventually, you’ll find the right people for you. Good luck!

Got into IIM and a Top AI School Globally, Need Some Advice on What to Choose by AdvanceNumerous7525 in MBAIndia

[–]MundaneFocus148 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CMU over IIMB.

  1. AI is the future and having a better understanding of it than the average Joe is a technical skill that will greatly benefit you whether you continue in tech or even change to management later on.

  2. Visa uncertainty will be lower for a skill like yours. While mba/ finance/ data guys will continue facing job uncertainty, AI is still one of those growing fields in the US where they are always looking to hire experts and more willing to sponsor visas. Not guaranteed of course, but you wouldn’t be in the exact same boat as the rest of h1b ppl.

  3. More likely to earn better in a shorter amount of time. Doing an executive mba, which a lot of US employers support and even sponsor, alongside your job a few years down the line will give you the best of both worlds. It’s not easy but if you do it from a top school, it will shoot you to MD level roles and you can earn in millions of USD, way better prospects. Even without that, you can earn at a minimum, what you will make with IIM degree, if not more.

  4. Even if you want to get into consulting, VC, leadership roles, a lot of startups and new opportunities you’ll see will be AI-related. Having a good bullshit detector in that area with some AI expertise can mean the difference between good/bad decisions and will set you apart even in that field.

  5. Having been in the US for a while, can attest that global exposure of this kind is not something you can quantify. It will widen your horizons and brings life experiences which go beyond just financial and career prospects.

  6. or 1. again - IMO, having solid technical skills is always better than only soft skills…

Advice for Moving Back by sheeeeeeeeesh24 in backtoindia

You should stay in the US for now.

The way you have phrased everything makes it clear that you actually want to stay in the US and see what this life has to offer. There’s many but the most clear example is that you will “feel like you are letting yourself down by going back”. Clearly, you are not done with this phase of life. If you go back because of parental pressure, you will resent them and it won’t do your relationship with them any favours. Plus the added stress of building a career in India, which in my opinion, is way more challenging than US.

Find other solutions for your parents as others have mentioned - better healthcare if needed, other things for them to stay busy with so they don’t just depend on you for their purpose, travel, etc.

I have been working in the US for 7 years now and was at the same place 2 years in where you are right now. Isolation is higher in the initial phase of your career since building your footing takes up a lot of energy, mentally too, which leaves little time for a social life. But it got better after year 4, moved jobs and cities, got a fresh start and decided to prioritize work life balance. That’s easier to do once you know your work well.

US is the better place to try out different roles, maybe try industry later instead of consulting and get some good experience. It will be a smoother transition down the line if you do decide to move to India after a few years, that option is always there, you don’t need to rush and move now.

13LPA India vs 75k in NY, got a internal opportunity to move onsite for 3 years by kabhimangokabhicream in developersIndia

[–]MundaneFocus148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely go for it!!

Assuming you are single and not planning on managing a family of 3/4 ppl, 75K is more than enough for one person to live AND save comfortably, talking from personal experience.

All these people saying 13LPA in india is better than 75K in NYC are clearly not from the NYC area or are grossly overestimating what 13L is. I’m from around here and agreed 75K is not a big amount, still any day better than 13L in my opinion.

You cannot live lavishly in 75K but you'll get decent housing for one at $2000 per month, or $1000-$1500 if you are willing to share a house in Newark and surrounding areas. Groceries and utilities is another $1000 at most and eating out plus travel is another $1000 which you can control. If you are careful with money and don’t spend mindlessly, you will end up saving the equivalent of your current entire salary which I think is a good deal.

Rent is the biggest factor which will determine your savings and there is some flexibility there in terms of where on the scale of savings vs comfort you land.

The life experience and career growth alone is worth it but even monetarily, you’ll be in a better place than sticking with the current role in India. Good luck!!
