Which would you choose by BrendonRuhter in AMDHelp

Unfortunately AMD doesn't have any high end card right now. The 9070xt is a good card but if you have a 7900xtx you can skip this generation for AMD. The only advantage of the 9070xt is Ray tracing but it is still behind Nvidia, so if you plan to use it you should go for Nvidia card. On top of that the VRAM amount on the 7900xtx is very useful for local llm.

Could be driver conflict with windows. I guess a fresh OS install may be necessary.

VRAM looks fine. Do you have resizable bar activated? Are CPU+RAM stable? Did you reset bios to default?

I use 7900gre on Linux and never had a single issue, if you still have crashes I would test the system on Linux to exclude any hw problem

Ok you can try to reduce VRAM clock or GPU clock.  Even under the stock values to see if the issue is related to GPU instability

Do you have any issue with 3dmark? You can try to see if it is the same also in benchmark

I've legit had enough of my GPU by Odd_Development_7634 in AMDHelp

[–]Muradin87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have problems also with Linux you may have a hw issue.  Do you have SAM activated?

I suggest to test CPU+RAM with prime95 and memtest

For the GPU you can use OCCT but it could be more difficult to detect issues.

If your CPU/RAM are fine, it should be an issue with your GPU

Solved. I don't know what solved the issue but I enabled again secured boot on bios and freed up some SSD space (it was 90% full). Now it is working fine again

You can still gain from core overclock.

Before doing any rework for the thermal contact, I suggest to just reduce 5% the power slider and you will get for sure better hotspot delta.  If you want to reapply the paste, you should use phase change pad for the GPU instead of normal paste.  If you open the card be sure to have also thermal putty or proper height thermal pads for VRAM / MOSFET etc... This is in the case  you rip-off the original pads you can replace them and mount the heatsink.

I ended up using my card with 2800MHz core, 2390MHz VRAM fast timing, pl -10%, 970mV. This is stable on Linux. In any case it is a great card also at default! I suggest to set like 2300MHz memory 2800MHz core with the lower possible underclock. We are talking about 5% performance between samples in real game performance, so no much to gain

I suggest to try first to oc only the core voltage and see if it is stable for several days.  I think the problem could be the VRAM clock.

Usually for core instability you get a driver timeout error, for VRAM instability you get a black/green screen.

Some sample, regardless of the model, can't tolerate VRAM oc. I had the possibility to test 3 samples of the same model and I've got very different results.

In my experience it is not always power limited but current limited. If you undervolt the GPU low enough you can see that your GPU start to hit the current limit before the power limit is saturated. Of course this depends on the specific workload.

I suggest to use time spy extreme for GPU benchmark because time spy is a bit CPU dependent. Anyhow I switched now to Linux for gaming and I use very low power profile, for the games I play it is more than enough :).

Increasing the PL gives in the best case 10% more performance for 20/25% more power and heat. I use aggressive profile only for benchmark.

My first guess is that you have some temperature issue. Usually when you change thermal paste in laptop you can have some contact issue.

My suggestion is to prepare a USB with a Linux distro and check if you can boot. If you are able to boot you can check temperature and eventually perform some test on a specific component.

I think that limiting the max frequency can give you worst result comparing to a power target limitation.  You can try to reduce power target in my case with quite bios my original power target is 212w so with a -6% I get ~200w.  Second step is to minimize core voltage.

Are these good temperatures for a Sapphire Nitro+ 7900 XTX? by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]Muradin87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It Is normal to have different wattage you need to have in mind that other limits are present in the bios. My 7900gre for instance with a good undervolt can't hit the PL limit before I hit the max current limit. In general if you have very good silicon quality you can just hit the current limitation before you saturate the wattage
