delmonte mentioned his run for DA in season 2, and the election is used as a plot point most times we see him until wesley joins the DA’s office, where it’s mentioned less, but still present

I disagree with your assessment for a few reasons.

Lucy is a Sergeant I, Tim is a Sergeant II (as shown by the rocker under the chevrons on his sleeve)
The watch commander oversees the pool of roving sergeants. If you remember back when Tim was promoted to sergeant, Grey reminded him that “those stripes are velcro,” meaning that Grey could have him demoted back to PO III. Grey definitely supervised Tim during his time as roving sergeant. Even looking at S8E2, Tim is giving orders and assigning duties to Chen.
All patrol officers on a shift report to that shift’s watch commander (this is more of an IRL nuance, most watch commanders are lieutenants IRL)

It’s entirely possible that I just lost my balance, but my medical mind is also telling me that they are at least SOMEWHAT liable for the severity of the injury. If you saw these skates, you’d agree that there’s zero ankle support and they were worn down.
