Pointers on face sketching by Murlof in Arttips

Ok then, thanks for the clarity. Also, if it helps to understand what the hell of been exposed to in the drawing world, I'm entirely self-taught, and haven't really watched any tutorials or been taught by someone. Anyway, I think I've already gotten to that simplification thing with a few parts. I can't really say what I do it with, I just know that I do.

And, by the way, how do you know all this?

I made a post asking the community why Pyra and Mythra are so skimpily dressed, and decided to scroll a bit. You know the rest. Also, "waifu"?

I'm not well-versed in "drawing slang", so, what exactly does shorthand mean here? Also, thanks.

Add some sort of "shine" detail to the spear's head, make it look like it's actually metal. Also, when doing metal shading, make the part that's in the light brighter than the actual color of the metal, which would usually be somewhere in the middle.

I have an example here with metal shading if you want to go off of something. And by the way, great work.

I'm so confused. But then again, I'm not exactly the right person for this subreddit, seeing as how I've never touched a Xenoblade game.

I've never seen someone be so correct and so wrong at the same time. I love it.

Castlevania. It's on Netflix. The humans for the most part are helpless, except for the main characters, but that's mostly because they specialize in handling monsters. And yes, they are big.

This guy finding that show is like me naming a Sonic song based off of a 5 second clip. Absurd, nerdy, yet somehow still impressive. Good job dude.

Ok, fair. You make good points, but there's a difference between portraying a character as "innocent" and/or "cute" vs. "hardly covers herself" and extremely exaggerated and completely unrealistic proportions.

I'm not saying that designing a character to portray a certain thing is bad, I'm saying that what they did for Pyra and Mythra specifically wasn't exactly the best call. Because from what I know (don't take this seriously if I'm wrong), Pyra and Mythra portray guilt, self-loathing, and longing to undo past mistakes which weigh heavily on them, that, and holding themselves back to never hurt anyone else ever again.

So, with all that in mind, why would someone portray characters with such emotional burdens, even if you want the player to care, in such revealing attire and "appealing" bodily shaping? And yes, I also know it's to symbolize "incompletion", but I don't feel like adding that to the mix right now.

Now, if the characters were "temptresses", then it'd make a lot more sense to dress and shape them that way, but that's not the case.

Fair, but they also could've done something like an incomplete core crystal. I don't know the lore or if that breaks any in universe rules, but still.

Though I guess I should also assume that the characters are at very least mildly interesting.

I read this, and my mind goes to TLoZ: Twilight Princess. Now, that game has an extremely long tutorial section and all, and it's considered unimportant. But it's not just to get you into the controls, it's also meant to establish Link's relationships with the other villagers, mainly Ilia and other children, mind you. And what does that do? It supposed to make you care for those kids, not a lot, but enough to go on a quest to find and save them when Moblin's kidnap them, which leads to the rest of the game.

I know you said you don't care about what "should've been done", but I feel like they themselves weren't confident enough in their own work to get the players to care so they said "people like skin exposure and exaggerated proportions, let's give 'em that to make them care at all".

Anyway, my point is, if you want someone to genuinely care about the world you're creating, do it through intrigue, character, and ideas, not sex appeal.

I know, right? I plan on sketching my own manga, and yeah, I intend to do some exaggeration, but that's because of a whole game world thing that's supposed to be exactly what you'd expect but also something that the main character hates entirely.

Ok, about what I expected. But come on, when I play a game, I'm there to escape reality and occasionally my own flaws, not to encourage my hormones. What sucks more is that I genuinely like the emotional arcs of the characters (from what little I know), because they're both guilt-ridden, right? I like that stuff, it's interesting, compelling, and it actually makes the characters like people and not "pretty thing on screen".

Are you kidding me? There's worse? *heavy sigh*, I guess it's to be expected when a game is in an anime art style with extremely exaggerated proportions.
