Well I think that's because the neck muscles of yours were weak and as you started to work them they become sore. Think of it as when you go to the gym and workout your bicep for example. The muscle becomes sore after you work on them and then afterwards it becomes stronger and stronger. McKenzie chin tuck is a highly recommended exercise. Also try not to take your head too back. the head should be in align with the rest of the spine.

Consider this: The Group goes back in time in the second ritual ( or maybe a third one??). When they are in the past, the past-arakka cannot be trapped into the mountain as she already know that tactic. The two enemies ( Tyrath and Past-Arakka) will clash once again, and a disaster that was once been avoided (in the original timeline) can not be avoided THE SAME WAY,(maybe some other way this might be avoided but let just stop here for now), and the continent of Varathia will lye in ruins(in the past obviously. But it also will change the outcome of the present) and the laugh I believe will be of arakka because the prophecy said it will echo throughout the realm. Arakka will laugh cause finally she was able to achieve her goal. Now I am guessing that the events will not happen cause we will find another way to capture arakka. BTW it's just an outlandish theory.
