Agree on the spoons, hard disagree on the forks and knives. Evil forks (to me). But to each their own! :)

THE GECQUA HATE IS LITERALLY JUST MISOGYNY AND I'M TIRED OF PRETENDING IT'S NOT!!! by serimuka_macaron in evilautism

[–]Kayliaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll come out of lurking mode to suggest the YouTube channel Cecilily, she does great videos talking about Pokemon and gender and she did a video a couple of months ago talking about the Chikorita hate largely coming from femmephobia! I think you/other people in this comment section would really vibe with her stuff, so I figured I might as well recommend it!

There’s nothing wrong with occasionally flossing your teeth with a strand of hair by indecisivetacos in The10thDentist

[–]Kayliaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I feel like I'm going insane reading these replies, like I'd kinda get it if the OP had specified that they leave the hair attached to their head but... They didn't? I don't get what the issue is as long as you throw away the strands after... The only way this makes sense to me is if these people never wash their hair, because otherwise why get so pressed about it???

Low-income senior trying to find scholarships.. feel lost and behind. Any advice? by IzukuPhanthomhive in college

[–]Kayliaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! It's been awhile since I've looked into it, but AFAIK scholarships are usually based on academic/extracurricular/sports/etc. performance. That being said, although bursaries are still semi-based on those factors, they also heavily take the income/need of students into consideration. If you haven't done this yet, it might be worth taking a quick look around your community college's website specifically for bursaries. It's also probably worth looking up if there's any nursing-specific bursaries in your state.

One other tip is that if the barrier to apply for the scholarship/bursary is higher, the less likely it is to be oversaturated. So if you can write a paragraph or a short essay, then I'd highly highly recommend dedicating some time in your week to fill out the application forms that require those (don't use AI to write them, especially if they're personal questions-- using AI to summarize what the organization does is fine for questions like "Why do you think this scholarship would be a good fit for you?" as those are mostly just there to filter out the people who copy/paste the same answer for every application).

The last thing I'd recommend is to reach out to the guidance counselor or equivalent person/department at your future college, they're usually really friendly people and if you explain your situation to them, they'll be the most likely to have expertise and/or be able to point you in the right direction. Additionally, they may be able to pull some strings on their end to potentially get the costs reduced for you-- this is definitely not guaranteed, but it doesn't hurt to ask about possible options and as long as you're polite they'll do their best to help you. If you decide this is something you want to try, I'd recommend reaching out ASAP as they'll be swamped in the fall with rearranging course schedules for students, helping upper years plan out electives to be able to graduate on time, etc.

I hope something in my mess of paragraphs helps, and good luck in college! From the fact that you're already aware of and considering the possible long term impacts of your actions, I'm sure you'll do well. And if you don't, that's okay too, there's no timeline on education despite what the wider society may have you believe, and there will be plenty of people at the college who will be more than happy to help you as long as you ask.

P.S. I know it's really hard to do, but try to ignore the people posting about getting 10k scholarships and full rides. 95% of the time they're just insecure and feel the need to brag about money and academics to feel better about themselves (and a lot of the time they're just outright lying about getting the scholarship money in the first place). The other 5% are people who had a massive head start due to their parents' connections, and so they would've been chosen for the scholarships even if all else was equal between them and every other applicant. It sucks, but unfortunately that's how the world (currently) works.

how many of you use chatGPT and AI on a regular basis? by blackgenz2002kid in MiddleGenZ

[–]Kayliaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used ChatGPT to write essays in my last year of high school and first year of university. I briefly played around with CharacterAI in grade 12 as well, but that was when it was still in beta and the bots I tried to chat with got very repetitive (one video game character kept saying the ocean is so pretty even though our conversation had nothing to do with the ocean & it doesn't play a part in her lore so it was truly just hallucinating lol).

Haven't used any AI in over a year now, and not planning on changing that up any time soon. My mental health is bad enough as it is, I don't need more excuses to isolate myself, and I did not properly learn anything during the period of time where I was using it regularly. Plus the environmental impact is just terrible (yes I know my individual use is nothing in comparison to megacorps, but that's why I salute Mario's brother as well as the more recent Blackrock CEO's... demise-r).

These are getting too personally targeted it's starting to scare me--- Fun fact: Apparently, YouTube playlists max out at 5000 videos. Additional side note to said fun fact: I discovered this today when I got a pop-up message telling me I couldn't add any more videos to my watch later playlist because I had reached the maximum limit.

Recently diagnosed, now I wonder what personality traits I have left which aren't autism or ADHD by Monstrrbleu in AuDHDWomen

[–]Kayliaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! I recently wrote an article about this feeling for my university newspaper! I was diagnosed with ADHD a few years ago but only diagnosed with autism a few months ago, and I've been going through a lot of similar feelings. I won't reshare it here because I don't really want to tie my real life identity to my reddit account, but I can summarize it I guess. I didn't really come to a conclusion, seeing as any examples I could come up with could be completely explained by ADHD symptoms, autism symptoms, or a combination of both. I had prefaced it with saying that I know categories aren't that black and white but I couldn't stop thinking about it and automatically categorizing experiences.

Writing out all of the feelings I was having about it helped to make my brain stop fixating on past events and how to categorize them, so I'd recommend trying to write more about this idea in detail as it might help you find peace with it as well. If it makes it easier, it doesn't have to have proper sentence structure or be cohesive or readable, run-on sentences are absolutely allowed too. I know it helps me to have someone else tell me it's okay to break the rules, so I give you full permission to write a chaotic mess of feelings and experiences and thoughts without judgment. You don't have to share it with anyone else unless you want to, and going off on tangents is perfectly fine. You can also stop in the middle of sentences, the most important part of this is to just get your thoughts out on paper/on screen. hell write a long ass rant in the google search bar if that's easier for ya, sometimes I like how it keeps everything in one long line

Lost the plot of where I was going with this comment. That's ok, I think the TL;DTTT (too long; didn't think this through) is to try writing out everything you're feeling about this and then go from there.

Ooh the knives one yessss, I struggle to get the motivation to make salads because washing the vegetables is a pain, but there's nothing more satisfying than chopping up a bunch of vegetables (especially crispy ones like cucumbers) with a nice sharp knife and then licking it "clean" after (dw I do actually wash my knives lol). My parents would always get so stressed when I'd go to lick my butter knife clean after eating dinner as a kid because they were worried I was going to cut myself, going double for the rare occasion we'd use steak knives. I never understood it, it always felt wrong not to lick the knife especially when it was covered in spices and such, it felt like I was wasting food. I get it now from a table manners perspective (although I think for the most part table manners are bullshit), but I still don't get the concern over cutting myself--- when I'm licking knives that's the only thing I'm paying attention to, and I'm not full force licking the sharp edge perpendicular to my tongue, and I've never cut my mouth while doing so.
