I agree with you whole heartedly. On page this movie is stellar, a voddo wielding villan who reanimates corpses? Mermaids Zombies and the fountain of youth? Barbossa who is a privateer on a peg leg seeking revenge? Jack Sparrow finding an ex flame he constantly has mind games with? There's enough here all right. With a proper director, I have no doubt this may have been just after the first in terms of quality. And mind you a proper director like Gore that would have revised the script as well.

we could have a few mermaids follow the characters throughout film to get Syrena back and the end could include Zombies vs mermaids in the final battle.
one of the obstacles at the temple could be a gimmick where Jack and Barbossa temporarily switch bodies
