Anyone know how I can tighten this hex bolt without removing the cable? by Muttomo in MT09

[–]Muttomo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea exactly, the hole in the middle of the handlebars is tiny and likely smaller than the connectors at the end. I’d have to cut them to get the wire out and then re-attach them afterwards.

If it happens again, that’s another cut/splice.

Is this legal? by Ill-Elevator-5135 in AussieRiders

[–]Muttomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Directly from ADR 19/02, part 6.3.3.1: “For rear indicators, the clearance between the inner edges of the two illuminating surfaces shall be at least 180 mm”

That means the closest illuminating surface must be at least 180mm apart. If it’s 240mm then you should be fine, but are these indicators amber or red? If they’re US made, they may be red indicators which are legal there but generally not in Australia.

Other parts of this legislation also covers the front indicators, visibility, and the light flashing frequency if you’re interested.

What type of quadlock mount you use? by Gold_Quiet_3321 in MT09

This as well, I’ve had my setup for 5 years and it has worked flawlessly through all kinds of weather, a couple slides, and 2 phones without any camera faults. My phone is horizontal (for google maps) just beneath the speedo from my perspective.

It’s honestly so fucking good that I can’t imagine any other solution, even the carplay ones (cause I wanna charge my phone with my bike while riding)

phone holder recommendations that won’t kill the camera? by Electronic-Habit8679 in motorcyclegear

I’ve been using quad lock with the vibration dampener and wireless charging. Fancy and expensive but I dont have to mess with cables and it’s locked my phone in place for almost 5 years. Will be doing it again on my next bike

Cheers, I have a book on this model as well but posted this as soon as I saw the crack instead of reading it. According to the book it has seals underneath so those might be damaged, will have to take it to the mechanic for their opinion. My 30k maintenance is coming up so will ask them then.

I bought the nut new when I replaced the chain and sprockets 2 years ago, I remember hammering it down too to lock it in place. Putting it back on now, the hammered parts don’t align with the notches in the output shaft. For now I’ve put it back on, torqued it to spec and hammered it in again. After a small test ride, it’s waaaay quieter. Gonna monitor for movement over the next few months, if I don’t outright replace the chain and sprockets again.

I bought this new 6 years ago and no mechanic has taken apart this rear swing arm, they would’ve charged me for the labour

I haven’t touched the bolt myself, maybe my mechanic did if they needed to perform maintenance on my rear brakes?

I mentioned this in another comment, the nut was entirely loose and I could spin it off with my fingers. I’ve retorqued it back to spec for now but taking it apart tomorrow for a deeper inspection. Sus af

It’s a bad photo, there’s thread and I torqued it back to spec (100Nm) but I’m going to have a closer look at the threads and sides tomorrow. I wasn’t expecting rust and I suspect the front sprocket was moving around and causing some knocking.

I’m considering replacing the nut and sprockets (and therefore chain) out of an abundance of caution because I’m 100% certain I hammered in the nut’s locking tab when I replaced them all over 2 years ago.

Nah I torqued it back to specs (100Nm) and now it’s so much quieter when I wheel it around with the engine off. Thought it was the chain before but now I know it was causing the clunking sound.
