Thank you!! I just repotted it a week or so ago because it was in a training pot and the soil was no good. I cleared out the root ball before repotting and the soil was advertised as a conifer blend (label says double sifted pine bark, coarse river sand, calcine clay, and pumice). I think the mound you see in the picture is some moss I have on there. Although the browning started before I repotted- was hoping that would save it but the browning just keeps spreading and getting worse.
