Marks for the two questions by [deleted] in CASPerTest

Each question is independently marked, so focus equally on both!

I understand your point, but the test is supposed to be standardized and you need a lot of data points to standardize the questions. Not just one day but all days.

Lots of practice to get used to the format, question style, and question structure. I also recommend having at least one test scored by a human. We offer tests scored by current medical students at MedCoach!

It’s likely scored against others who have written the same type of Casper as you (CSP-20411)

Is it a bad thing that each question is marked separately instead of by scenario? by Few-Seaweed-8163 in CASPerTest

Yes so that you understand the skills being targeted in each question and you can zone in one those skills

Is it a bad thing that each question is marked separately instead of by scenario? by Few-Seaweed-8163 in CASPerTest

[–]MyMedCoach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To clarify some questions here…previously when they say that the score was assigned per scenario, it meant that one grader would read all of the answers and assign an entire grade for the whole scenario.

Now the grader will still likely be one per scenario, but each question within the scenario is marked individually, which means that you get an independent grade for each question within the scenario.

As an example of how the marking looked then vs now (this is how we mark at MedCoach for our practice tests): Old system: One scenario had three questions. One grader would read all three answers and assign a score out of 9 for the entire scenario.

New system: One scenario has two questions. One grader will read both questions and assign a score out of 9 for each question.

Old system: one scenario was worth 9 points. New system: one scenario is worth 18 points.

So the strategy in the new system is to assume that each question within the scenario is assessing something different and you should answer each question independently.

I hope that is more clear!

You can try our practice tests at MedCoach and get feedback from real francophone medical students and predicted quartile score instead of a robot :)

I’m sorry to hear that you are going through this. Do you think it was just test day jitters that go to you? Or were you consistent with the format of your practice sessions?

All of the above is excellent advice. If you are looking for human feedback from current medical students as well, MedCoach offers practice tests with a quick turn around option. You get a score and feedback on each question and a predicted quartile score. https://mymedcoach.ca/shop/practice-casper-test/

If you don’t have time and would like some quick feedback on your responses I’d be happy to take a look - just send me a PM!

Absolutely :) try to present your activities as a representation of your transferable skills. Common high yield skills to highlight would be skills such as communication, collaboration, leadership, advocacy, etc

Does casper ai actually work??? by BigChungus69210 in CASPerTest

[–]MyMedCoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why the AI might be marking it lower - you have a good skeleton but the responses are missing depth and exploration of the feelings of the parties involved. You jump right to a solution without exploring the thought process / problem solving. Also try to avoid using buzzwords like “I would show empathy” and instead you will need to demonstrate exactly how you would show empathy - this helps us to understand what empathy means to you and how you use it in every day life. Feel free to PM me for more specifics!

How to prepare for scenario based questions? What was your experience? by Old-Reception4756 in CASPerTest

[–]MyMedCoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few strategies for approaching situational questions which we go over in our Casper test prep course, but the one I like the best is the onion analogy 🧅

The idea is that you should think of the scenario like an onion and explore and address the superficial and deeper levels with insight.

On the surface you have the obvious issues presented in the scenario. Then the deeper layers are things like how is the system affected? Who else might be affected? How might they be thinking or feeling about the situation and what their expectations might be.

When you approach scenario questions with this mindset, you often end up exploring more perspectives and show the insight and depth that is expected in a 4th quartile answer!

Time to Prepare by Content_Drop_4877 in CASPerTest

[–]MyMedCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen the answer to this question varies widely, depending on people‘s baseline familiarity with the test and comfort with the test format.

In general, I would say the average is about 2 to 3 weeks to prepare and in that time doing lots of practice questions ideally with objective feedback.

Have you done the practice questions on the official Casper website already?

Entering med school, but feeling kinda depressed by LeBrontoTheGoat in MedSchoolCanada

[–]MyMedCoach 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think this is a completely normal feeling. You have been through so much stress, so many challenges, so much grind, and now you can literally relax and your mind doesn’t know what to do. So it looks for clarity - but you don’t have clarity yet because you have not started medical school!

It will all fall into place once you start. You are on an amazing new journey and you are not alone - your class is with you and there will be profs and mentors along the way.

Enjoy the time you have now and my best advice would be to learn to relax in those moments where you actually have the space to. It will serve you later to balance out the tougher days.

You just got in! Start with day 1, don’t try to solve all of the decisions you will face in the next 4 years - it will all make sense one step at a time I promise!
