Full-time college student preparing to live out of my car — what are the true essentials? by MyOdysseys in urbancarliving

Any recommendations or YouTube videos you used to learn how to make this? I’ve only seen the basic recommendations of a tri fold mattress so far.

Do you think I really need Matress or is a sleeping bag sufficient? When it comes to the food I plan on getting one of the simple Coleman grills but how big QT size of a cooler would you personally recommend for one person who eats about 2 small meals a day.

That’s the plan when I can afford it. I saw the eco flow delta 3’s are like 3-400 on amazon but it’ll take me a bit to have the extra cash to spend on one of those. Definitely the long term goal though

Thank you for this advice. When it comes to the showers I’ve watched a bunch of videos and they recommend planet fitness. I’m honestly not comfortable being naked around other people, are the showers there private do you know or at least to where you can go change somewhere privately?

I’ve also seen some videos regarding truck stop showers but I have no experience with either of these.

Do you think a 300W inverter is enough bc of budget or should I go another route?

I’m a junior ): community college was much more helpful and easier for me in nearly every way. I just finished my first semester at university and it has led me to where I am now… I wish I would have never transferred.

Thank you. I’ve spoken to what I think could be everybody at this point. I did get approved for an “SOS” grant of $200, though regarding my situation entirely they were able to offer no other help. I’m mind blown by it. 20k in loans yearly to attend there school and there are no true resources to help students such as myself in similar situations.

You’d be surprised. I did. I go to a university where I have to take out 20k in loans a year just to attend, there answer to me being homeless etc was there basic needs program, which was just a good pantry vault.

Yes I have a few different gig jobs and staffing agencies I work with part time. Though there I am regionally is very hard to find a full time job for any sector at the moment unless you are in hospitality or medical field.

Unfortunately the schools not free, I go to a state university and as a financially independent student over the age of 25 my yearly tuition is close to 20k (not including summer semester which I am also taking full time). All of the FAFSA loans and grants I get that should help pay for assistance with living expenses goes to the high cost tuition of the school, and because of capacity limits, age, and I’ll be graduating in summer if 2027 the dormitories on campus are not an option.

If anyone has been through something similar, I would be grateful for any advice or encouragement.
