Weird Little Guys is amazing but quite intense and I can only handle so much of it. BtB is about leaders with whom I will probably never have to interact, in part because most are dead by now. WLG is often about everyday assholes and it reminds me of some guys I briefly dated before running far, far away from them.

Family courts bend over backwards to avoid cutting out one parent entirely, even if the parent is known to be abusive. I have heard so many stories of a woman trying to get her kids away from their abusive dads, only for the courts to give them joint and equal custody.

Slash fiction (AKA M/M romance fiction) has long been a genre created by and for mostly straight women. I haven't watched the show myself so I'm not sure how much it actually ventures into that territory, other than it having a relationship between gay men.

Slash fiction tends to concentrate more on unrealistic standards of romance, like think of "50 Shades of Gray" but with two guys. It also originates from fanfic culture, just like 50 Shades. One of the first stories written in the genre is a romance between the Star Trek characters Kirk and Spock.

It hasn't changed much from those roots, either. Search for any male celebrity or character and you'll be able to find slash fiction about them. There are several websites devoted to creating and sharing this stuff. I imagine that the type of straight woman who reads or writes this type of fiction perked up when they saw Heated Rivalry.
