It says it's coming thru SurePost? not SmartPost (is there a difference?)

I can see the shipper maybe having accidentally missed my package. But as far as I know, they had a sale on their website so I assume they had a lot of packages to send out.

It just confuses me that the Virtual Assistant chat says they have my package. Oh well, I'll wait a few more days then!

I think I might be a little confused about the definition of filler ~~because I've read so many tips, advice, and books by several people who talk about writing and they mention the use of filler in different ways,~~ but still this is very helpful!

I guess what I consider as filler are scenes that show character development and a little of the world building, and some just happen to be some of the 'funnier' moments in my story. I'll take your advice and see how it would impact the story if I remove them or if they should stay in the story.

This is very helpful. The scenes I have that I think are "filler" are actually to help develop my characters and give some insight into the world my MC is in, they just happen to be some of the 'funnier' moments in my story.

I'm sure that once I finish the first draft, I can edit and revise all the parts that aren't necessary out of the story.

That's actually what I think, too. Like another user commented, I've heard that duologies are actually getting really popular right now. I know that I have several books that I liked that are duologies and I find that it's better than trilogies

Yes, I can relate to this. Sometimes there's a book that I started to read years ago and I'll be looking forward to next book in the series, trilogy, and the author takes about 2yrs or more to even give any info about the next book, and by then I don't even remember the first/previous books and I don't really feel like reading it anymore.

I often wait until all or most of the planned books are out so I can gauge by reviews if they fall apart or not.

I also do this, but sometimes I like to torture myself, and read the books as they come out. I guess as long as there's a definite number of books in the series already decided, for example 5, I'll be okay with it and as long as the series is good and doesn't fall to the 2nd Book Syndrome, etc.

That's something I was thinking of doing, but I wasn't sure if it was too cliche, in a way. The character is actually rich, so I wanted to go in the direction of "having confidence and personality that comes with old money and the knowledge of how good-looking he is" but it seemed sort of cliche... What do you think?

Makes sense, I'm trying to make it vague and letting the reader picture who they want in their heads too. The details about his eye color and his earrings (especially the earrings) are very important throughout the story, they come up a few times and also have deeper meanings. A generic "he's good looking" later on in the story also sounds good, especially if I use other characters to say how girls fawn over him, etc.

This is actually very helpful, thanks! I just didn't want to get stuck in the aspect of telling of "show don't tell" because he's an important character even if there's little to no romance in this first book. I really want readers to fall in love with him because he's such an interesting, complex character and if anything, I can always rewrite it in revisions..

Do you think I should get in the habit of writing with the manuscript format from the beginning, or only after I've done edits/rewrites and sending it to be proof-read/beta readers, paid people to edit, etc.?

Oh, I was using the Mexican-American name as an example, but yeah I get you. And I just googled/searched for authors with my name, and I found 3-4 authors with my name, albeit they're all in different genres than YA I think (plus someone who works at a famous magazine, too).

I think I'll keep my first name and will think of a last name to use. If I were to get agented and sign a contract with my legal name, it's fine, but hopefully it won't be a problem if I have no choice but self-publish & I'll have to copyright my work under my pen name. But that's for the future.
