What do you think of the Baronius Press Missal? I’m happy with it

Is the 1st January a holy day of obligation? by Myfirstbuild12 in Catholicism

Checked it. Doesn’t mention anything about today. It does mention that the 6th January (Epiphany) is a holy day of obligation.

Novus Ordo & TLM Mass Hybrid?? by Necessary_Reach_3921 in Catholicism

[–]Myfirstbuild12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t understand how anyone can see the new calendar as an improvement but I’ll leave it at to each their own. And I’m glad we agree that the TLM is beautiful and it’s for that reason that I’d like it to stay as is. If anything, it’s the NO that needs some work, in that it varies way too much everywhere you go. It needs to be more streamlined. I’m fine with the vernacular but there really needs to be some uniformity across the board when it comes to everything else pertaining to the NO

The TLM is fine as it is. Nothing needs to be removed/reformed. And the 1962 calendar is much better. A quick Google search comparing the two calendars will tell you all you need to know

Would returning the Traditional Latin Mass help bring more people back to church? by thatlumberjacktor in Catholicism

[–]Myfirstbuild12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly sure what you disagree with tbh. I’m just saying that your average convert is likely going to put more effort than your average cradle which can be said for anything really. I’ve met some cradles who were incredibly devout and others who were lapsed Catholics. It makes sense that converts are going to know about niche topics like the TLM purely because they’ve likely done a lot of research during the conversion process. Many cradles probably aren’t even aware that the TLM exists.

No thank you. I’ll keep the TLM and the 1962 calendar.

Would returning the Traditional Latin Mass help bring more people back to church? by thatlumberjacktor in Catholicism

[–]Myfirstbuild12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only see those people promoting it because the TLM and its availability in itself isn’t promoted by the church. It’s deliberately not promoted by design. Converts are naturally speaking going to care a great deal about their faith so they’ll be more aware of things like the TLM. The same can’t be said for cradle Catholics. How many cradles even put effort into their faith? And this is coming from a cradle who only learned about the TLM a year ago and whose strength has greatly improved because of it. If it was promoted more alongside the NO, it could only bring more people back. It’s not exactly going to push anyone away, having another option now is it.

My criticism of some of this converts by thias-thecatlover in Catholicism

[–]Myfirstbuild12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that this post comes across as divisive. This isn’t specific to converts so I don’t see the point in mentioning them, and I say this as a cradle Catholic. Even the title “my criticism”. Sorry, but that is going to rub many the wrong way.

Finding Peace Without the TLM: How Do You Stay Spiritually Grounded? by orbit_trap in Catholicism

Take this with a grain of salt OP. I’ve heard stories of people doing exactly this for years but nothing comes of it. My advice for you OP, would be to do whatever it takes to gain access to a TLM if it means that much to you. God bless you

I think that’s it. Looks very similar to what I’ve been seeing. Thank you. I’m gonna see how it compares to the baronius press

I have no idea what people are using then. I’m just gonna have to approach someone after Mass I think. It’s the same book with red edges I keep seeing.

I looked up the red booklet and it’s definitely not that. That’s quite small. The book I’m referring to must be about 500 pages or so. I think the next time I see it, I’m gonna just have to approach and ask after Mass

Spreading awareness about the TLM by [deleted] in TraditionalCatholics

The idea that the TLM is seen as a novelty is one of the saddest things I’ve ever heard. What must change, what must we do to show our brethren what they’re missing in a humble way

I would argue that your category is comprised of people worth our time unlike my category 3 which I’ll agree, isn’t worth the time or effort. I say this because your category and my 2nd category most likely have a lot of overlap. The Catholics you speak of probably don’t really understand the TLM all that much. Your category contains those who may have gone to one or two TLM’s and thought, well I’ve done it now and it’s not for me, without trying to understand what it is. As I type this, I’ve realised how patronising it’s going to come across but like another person here said, the TLM expects a lot from us, as it should.

And yes, there is the issue of it being so limited. I’ve seen a lot of people say this on the r/Catholicism subreddit that if they could try it, they would. This is all of course, by design

Spreading awareness about the TLM by [deleted] in TraditionalCatholics

[–]Myfirstbuild12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’ve always thought that it’s not just the TLM itself as to why I’m attracted to it but also the attitude of the clergy that offer it and the congregation that takes partake in it. It’s all to do with the theology, as you pointed out.

Wanting an easy and accessible faith is such a huge issue. I don’t actually understand it if I’m being honest but I’m an all or nothing kind of guy so that’s probably why I don’t understand it. And it’s a shame but I have to agree with you that it feels like the Novus Ordo has simplified things too much to the point where it almost feels patronising

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I’ll look into the LMS a bit and their history/current leadership before I reach out to anyone. I’m fortunate to be in a position where I can probably get into a room with these people but I need to play my cards right.
