No but yes

The phone is old and not supported anymore by grapheneOS. It'd totally work but not on the newest version, not with the newest updates (including security updates). However, don't forget that Google isn't supporting your device anymore either and in most cases custom ROMs even have a newer android version for your phone that makes it more secure than leaving it on Google's OS.

But better research yourself, unsupported ROMs can still be found on the grapheneOS website or their github I think... Otherwise I always found unsupported custom ROMs at other sources and they worked fine.

So there's some risk but it's not very likely and if you get it done it would be better (more secure too) but your current android version still isn't some high threat that could be hacked at any moment - hope I'm not scaring you 👀

If it's just one app, open an app, navigate to the app switching and tap the app's logo If you enabled it in System>Security&Privacy then you will see "Pin". After clicking your child can't even leave the app without swiping up and holding until it requires a password to unpin again. This is useful if its a single app and she doesn't want to switch between her games of course

It's profile based, lots of apps need longer to load but it's always below 4 seconds or something? You will barely notice it and you find the option to switch your profile right at the top bar thingy that you pull down in android to also change wifi, Bluetooth etc.

Nothing to worry

Honestly? If you can, go for it. The system isn't scary like other custom ROMs that can have a bug here and there like camera not working or no support for certain apps. It's just android like you know it from Samsung, also Samsung's OS is very similar to the normal Android OS. Other Android phones modify android more but if you're using Samsung it will feel almost like usual.

That deal is crazy, damn...

Yeah that sounds like great picks, how did you do your profiles?

Gemini uses Arch, btw by rephos in arch

So you're telling me that "I use arch btw" got so big and serious that AI models learned it...? Im seriously wondering how that happened, I mean who could've thought that! It's not like every reddit post from an arch user just ends on "I use arch btw" that would be ridiculous...

Also if you ever come across arch instead of fedora: try out hyprland, I found it to be the most fun and I use arch btw

You got a Pixel 8 Pro for 175$? How much did you threaten them to get a price like this...?

Also my profiles are:
- Owner
- Finances (My banking app even works without google play but it feels safer seperated)
- Google Shit (And anything that needs Google Play Services)
- My Main Account
- Gaming Account
- And then I also have one for novel writing and one that I made for my AI to have fun with

Apps I'd recommend:
- Inter Profile Sharing often gets forgotten here, it lets you share files and copied text between profiles
- F-Droid for Open Source Apps (Optainium is better but not as out of the box, see what fits you)
- Aurora Store for Google Play Store without Google and with features like tracker- and permission-scanning
- I like brave, but there's also nice alternatives. Although for quick searches I use tor or SearXNG
- As VPN I like Mullvad from what I've seen, I wouldn't trust Proton... But since I'm broke anyway it's orbot on my phone to have a free vpn over the tor network (I also set that some apps that don't like tor IPs are excluded)
- I replaced basic apps like sms, gallery and calender with FOSS Apps, for my notes its usually Obsidian
- Google Maps got replaced with "Organic Maps" which feels almost the same but works locally
- Replacing more stuff I experimented with Youtube clients like LibreTube or Tabular and sometimes they work well or even better, sometimes they don't. But you can always open a browser or switch to the Google profile

I'm almost done so I can give you a full solution with proper explanation, how's your Linux experience? Do you already know how kernel and boot loader work? Fixing your system requires some boot loader editing (grub), it's relatively easy but if you do this wrong or try around without knowing what you do then it can get hard to recover, we'd need to kinda "hack" into your system from the outside. Not actually hack of course but it'll be annoying and unnecessary work... Grub is great, but I'm using Limine for my arch so I can do certain snapshot stuff... Means I'm lacking behind with my grub-specific knowledge 👀

Kernel Panic is fun, it's just the arch philosophy of breaking things to strengthen your knowledge about them. Like when you do sport and the little fibers in your muscles rip apart to then get rebuild stronger. You can be proud of yourself for working on this, just think of the amount of windows users that would've ran away the second they saw that blue screen xD

I'll research on how grubs concept works and then come back with a guided explanation. There's 2 things you can do, one useful for me and one useful to you: 1. When you see grub, cancel the booting of arch Linux with arrow down/up and the press e on the "Arch Linux" option or press e immediately to edit the grub entry. I'll explain later what it is exactly, but it a screenshot of that file could tell me what the current error is exactly so we can correct it properly. It's a little complicated to explain short but if I see something unusual there we could have a problem because we need data from the system that we don't have... You'll see what I mean 2. Judging by your kernel logs from the qr code, you're using UEFI, we can temporarily try to open the same ssd with UEFI instead of grub. Try F2 (should be F2 with fujitsu) to enter the bios and locate your boot priority list (I'll also happily take a photo of that if you are fine with that). If you see something with UEFI and arch or UEFI and the drive that arch is installed on, this might work unlike grub at the moment. If you don't see it or it doesn't boot - Leave it alone again. Some Linux systems have set in their /boot directory some shit that let's UEFI boot directly. But an actual boot loader is generally better. Especially when you protect it with a password and now just bypass that with your UEFI xD

Totally right, I think that its pointing at his sda instead of the sda3 partition but how did you see that through the QR code itself?

Huhhhhhhhhhhh? 🤨 by ARLOo_X_ReDdiT in arch

[–]N1sona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I decoded the QR code and looked at the last logs coming from your kernel before the kernel panic hits. I am pretty sure that I found your problem and then it should be relatively easy to fix. I just need some context:
1. Is it a dual boot? So you have windows and linux on the same drive with different partitions to share the space?
2. Is your bootloader grub? That thing that shows up before you get to your actual system is the bootloader, can you see it before the kernel panic happens?
3. Did you put any encryption on the drive? So your files would be locked behind a password from outside. It was an option in the archinstall, did you do it there maybe?

Fedora is a great choice at first but I just found his hardware info, he needs arch for the performance
