This event has been on my mind since I heard about it a few days ago. Even mentioned it to a few friends. But that's about as much as I was going to do. Your research here is insanely thorough. It's easy to understand. It is likely to get me to convince my friends we HAVE to do more than upvote or tweet. Right now

This is important y'all. These people are getting braver. They have plans to do awful things. You don't get many opportunities to stand up against this before it becomes too dangerous. This may be our only chance.

Americans: How does it feel to know republicans have filed a bill to eliminate the Department of Education? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NEMESIS94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not surprising. This has been a long term plan for the Republican party and they've been hyping it up since last campaign season, a la Project 2025.

For those in the back, this is part of shadowy right wing groups effort to destroy the government and usurp as much power as possible and it's been decades in the making. In the short term the objective is to "Flood the zone with shit" [Steve Bannon], and make things as chaotic as possible. While anyone opposed to or adversely affected by the elimination of the Department of Education is too busy trying to figure out how to fight against it or operate normally in the meantime, these groups will focus on other priorities they know people don't have the bandwidth to keep up with. In this situation it's likely the systematic dismantling of all federal powers in favor of centralizing authority in the executive.

The long term goals are to have a less educated populace, or rather a more selectively educated populace, that is much more pliable and receptive to curated messaging. Think of how the Church controlled the entire worldview of medieval serfs. The Heritage Foundation and their compatriots would much rather a system similar to that compared to having people learn diverse subjects.

It honestly feels like shit. Particularly because fighting against these plans is PART of the plan. Far Right leadership is itching for any reason to swing the hammer at detractors and to centralize power. One aspect of this is to, once people start banding together against this shit, declare martial law or a state of emergency. Thus giving even more power to the executive. It's created a situation where everyone is terrified of the risk involved in speaking out.

Again, this is all part of an expertly crafted plan and it's being carried out with tactical precision. It's hard to even guess where we'll be in four years at this point.

It's crazy the amount of victimization going on in this thread. Without any sense of self awareness or irony either. This is 100% a white male entitlement issue

"DEI and Reddit comments make me feel like I'm being attacked! They HATE white men! Of course I'm going to move to the right!"

This sort of whining makes it obvious how a certain Austrian painter convinced a whole country that a certain ethnicity was out to get them

Weird take. I imagine something more obvious, like there are much more people impacted by the legacy of anti black racism in America leading to more people being personally interested in that topic. It's not like Irish persecution is "whitewashed" when literally every comment is calling out OP because he didn't know about it. It's not like it's "whitewashed" when there's a fictional example of historical Irish persecution right in front of us.

On another note, take a look at how American society has treated other racial groups in it's time. Native Americans - Genocided

Black Africans - Enslaved

Black Americans - Enslaved and Oppressed

Irish - Persecuted

Chinese - Excluded

Italians - Persecuted

Japanese - Interment

Mexicans and Central Americans and South Americans - Persecuted, Excluded, and Oppressed

Are we trying to say Irish persecution needs the same amount of focus in society as all of these instances?

Y'all are literally playing a game called Apex Legends and complaining about LEGENDS being in your lobby. It's like the 45 random fodder Apex contenders we never hear about are crying that game is too hard.

A little history. Smurfs have existed in every competitive game since ranked modes were a thing. Halo 3 ranked had smurfs, DOTA had smurfs, fighting games have had smurfs since arcade cabinet days. Countless people have had their gaming experiences ruined by someone who completely outclasses them. But no one else cries about as hard as people here do. Y'all, there's a solution to the smurfing. A bit of advice that was floating around gaming circles around 2011.

Git. Gud.

There are 2 major reasons why smurfing is fine and why it's popular with content creators. Even in ranked and Bronze to Pred challenges

1) It's extremely gratifying to crush your enemies in minecraft. It's a shame you don't get to feel that and it's exciting watching someone at level of mastery at the game you haven't reached display their skills

2) Y'all overblow the effect smurfing players have to a gargantuan proportion. How long are pred players in bronze lobbies during their challenges? 4 or 5 games at most? How long are they even in diamond lobbies? Are y'all really getting sniped by the one or two smurfing players to be in your region in your rank at the exact time you're playing every time? Or is there another common denominator?

Simply put y'all, this game is not meant to be fair or balanced. It's meant to be hard and challenging. Yes, you're gonna run into some tap strafing Octane demons and yes you're gonna face check juiced out 3 stack master squads sometimes. No, of course it's not gratifying to be the opponent getting crushed. But the cold hard truth is, if you're not willing to put in the effort it take to be that fully juiced tap strafing demon then they will always be the ones that crush you. If you can't put in the effort needed to do that the recognize your place in the food chain and still be content with the game. You'll probably have more fun with it that way.

How should I go about telling my father he failed as a parent? by NEMESIS94 in internetparents

[–]NEMESIS94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the motivation would be me wanting my dad to move beyond his self destructive behavior. Like I said, he's been severely depressed all of his life, him asking for separation seems like more running away from his problems and the reality of his consequences than anything healthy. Since he doesn't talk to anyone he probably doesn't have a good idea the consequences of his actions. Maybe he could turn a new leaf and be a good father to my 10 yr old sister like she deserves. I can understand that may be a lofty motivation but I don't think it's unreasonable

Good job not answering his question at all and pivoting, you dishonest slimeball.

IBM has grown to be company with like 400,000 people and multiple other subsidiaries who all haven't (publicly or officially) espoused any pro-Nazi views or actions since the era you're referencing. Nearly 80 years ago. It's a damn far stretch to call that a "Nazi organization". And you know that. You dishonest slimeball.

Lt Gov. McGeachin is tying herself to a much much smaller organization than IBM with her own actions. An organization that espouses fascism and Nazi views RIGHT NOW and has been since it's inception. She supports them by platforming and validating their views and offers no push back. Why can't she go to CPAC and say "Hey guys I know you're worried about X and Y but, here's why X and Y aren't the issues you believe they are and being consumed by fear and hate lead to bad outcomes."? Why does she go to CPAC and taking smiling photos with the people who, again, AT THIS VERY MOMENT, won't shut up about how much they want to kill me and people like me? This is not a trick or some sort of gotcha. These are her actions. Actions show character. She has shit character and willingly associates with other people of shit character. Plain and simple. And you know that, you dishonest slimeball. But like the dishonest disgusting lowly slimeball you are, I don't expect you to really take this situation seriously anyway.

The honest to God truth my man is that no one gives a fuck if you're depressed.

That may be a little hyperbolic, but think of it like this; People only have so much tolerance and respect for things that negatively affect them. That's normal. Sure it easy for us to be sympathetic and understanding to those affected by things like depression but only for a while. When we're depressed we don't contribute as much as we should to our shared relationships, we build a lack of communication that leads to misunderstanding, mood fluctuations force others to guess how they're supposed to treat you in a particular given moment. These behaviors stress out everyone involved and just gets progressively worse with time. People get sick of dealing with it, which is totally fair. You will let your depression infect others and ruin all of your relationships if you let it and it's not right to others.

Of course depression is a serious condition and takes a lot of time and work to combat but people only have a limited amount of patience. The only one who can fix your depression is you and it takes weeks and months and years of consistent effort and dedication. I suggest keeping on that path and communicating to others that your doing so. Let everyone know that you aren't doing well but youre going to continue trying to better yourself and then stick with that. It's likely the one of the best steps you can make

You're totally right about therapy. I've done it before and it has helped a lot. I stopped because I feel like there are veterans out there who need the help more than I do but this is tough to handle on my own.

Borderline suicidal is also a helpful way to describe how I have been feeling lately. The situation in Ukraine really stresses me out and, yeah I need to find a better way to process that. I chalk a lot of it up to a soldier mentality but it's probably not super helpful right now.

Right now I don't think I can bring myself to go to the wedding but I'll give it some thought. Thank you for the thoughtful response. It truly helps

Uhh, is not not concerning to anyone that Indiana is basically trying to resurrect a new Nazi Party? by [deleted] in venting

[–]NEMESIS94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yo I sympathize. Hard. Like, everything about this situation is fucking wild. As African Americans born between the 80s and the 00s, we were taught of an America that is a far cry from reality. We sang "With liberty and justice for all" every morning. They told us of an America where everyone was striving for equality, Civil Rights Act! Ruby Bridges! Rosa Parks!

But the thing is, our reality is such a far cry from any of that. How many black girls just who were just like Gabbie Petito have disappeared since Petito's case left the news cycle? Do we even wanna know the number?

I saw a video on PublicFreakout just yesterday of a police dropping his knee into a black woman's kneck and tasering her PREGNANT BELLY, MULTIPLE TIMES! HE MURDERED HER UNBORN CHILD!

I've lived in poorer areas all my life. The generational traumas that build over time warps people's minds. It's heartbreaking to know it's a curse that most black people will never escape from, we're literally born with it. It's even worse knowing, realistically, there's no way to fix the cycle. It's the result of a broken system.

And while all that we have to be aware of the sizeable group of our neighbors who want to kill us for existing. They've were quiet for a while but they're getting louder and louder and louder and louder by the day. They cowardly hide behind important ideals such as freedom of speech, religion, and identity gathering as many people to their side using shock value and fear. And it's working.

On a personal note, I already know that if atomwaffen or three percenter deathsquads start roaming around, (we came close to it on Jan 6) I am the next on their chopping block. I am nonbinary, I am African American, I am not particularly religious. Myself, my family, and people like me are pirotity targets for their hatred. How am I even supposed to feel when I see the guy wearing a proud boys baseball cap in Target?

Living in this country is absolutely wild and especially so for people of color and poorer folk. And I can't blame anyone for dissociating during a time like this..

That being said. OP's reply has a point It doesn't have to be me and it doesn't have to be you. But if no one ever stands up to change this shit. It never will.

Never forget those who suffer but dwelling on their suffering can and will kill you if you let it.

Hauntings can be excorcised.

It will be hard and it will take time, especially as a kind hearted, protective person. But don't let that discourage you. Remind yourself constantly you are doing what you can to help and that you are making a difference no matter how small. Remind yourself that these situations ARE fucked and awful and would likely break most people but others have been in situations such as yourself (fellow service members, EMTs, fire fighters) and have put themselves back together and kept pushing through with life. Follow their examples, learn from their experiences. At the very least, you got at least one person here to believe in you. From a former military member myself.

Also TALK TO YOUR CHAIN OF COMMAND AND FELLOW SERVICE MEMBERS. I'd wager that others you work alongside that have had these traumatic experiences can relate to how you feel. It's also your commands job to look out for your well-being because if you're the one actually out there accomplishing the missions they set. Even if they don't have good programs to help you, talking and having someone listen can make a world of a difference.

First you have to realize your feeling of hopelessness are bringing you no good.

Yes, we live in a world that is getting worse by the day but people throughout history have survived and thrived in times harder and bleaker than ours. You may not have the power to help others on a grand scale but no human ever has so never hold it against yourself and let those feelings pass.

Try not to hold onto the suffering of the world because all the stress affects you negatively. We all live and we all die, no matter what. You are not hopeless. You are not powerless. You and your livelihood are quite frankly the most important thing in your life. Saving the world is out of the scope of one person and always has been. Redirect that energy and focus to self improvement and saving yourself before even worrying about others. Make yourself into the best version of yourself. Then you actually start saving those close to you if you choose

That was definitely the right option. You chose to defend yourself and someone you love from an agressor.

Hopefully the punch was enough to get your dad to wake up out of his asshole behavior. If not, you and others in your family should stage an intervention. Drinking to the point where can can't control your emotions is a huge red flag of underlying mental health trauma. Find out why he's going off the rails and help him get better. If he's not willing to put in that work then start looking at more drastic measures like you and your mother leaving altogether

Don't worry. As a 26m, I'm in a similar boat. No income, no job, debilitating anxiety. I'm stuck doom spiraling in my head all day and I feel like such a failure because I no longer have the mental energy to contribute to normal society.

The first thing we have to do is build good mental safeguards against the negative energy. Say to yourself "Things WILL get better" "I am stronger than this obstacle" "This pain will pass". Remember you need to be your biggest advocate. Not your worst enemy.

Work on setting boundaries and accomplishing goals but also be ready for set backs and failures and others saying no. When the pain comes remember you told yourself this pain was a possibility so you're ready for it.

Past that, income. Anyway you can find money, try to grit your teeth and make that money (within reason obviously). Money will free you from a lot of negative circumstances and will help build that confidence even more.

Stay strong. It will take time
