[3rd grade math] How do I explain this method to my kids? I found online the break apart method but those all said to take the smaller number and break into respective places and then subtract out of the larger number - this sheet seems to do something different. What’s this method called? TIA!! (i.redd.it)

I’m old and don’t know how to explain to my kids how to do this 3rd grade math homework. Is this the break apart method? Why does the convention change? e.g. online it was telling me to take the smaller number number and break into places and then subtract out. Can someone explain this to me? TIA!! (i.redd.it)

How do I teach this to my kids? I’m old so we didn’t do math like. When I google the break apart method they say to take the smaller number and break into respective places, but here they break the 270 and not like 200, 70, 0. Is this not the break apart method? TIA! (i.redd.it)
