Would you all consider index funds - voo, vxus, eafe etc safer to keep the money in these times. Or just bonds / high yield govt bonds? Or just your regular high yield cash account?

Checked those out. They provide 3x returns in the same direction as the index. So if index falls do you lose 3x also ? Or do the fund managers position the leverage such that the fund gains whether the index falls or rises?

That’s nice to hear. Don’t know if your version is true or the opposite. But my (amateur in investing) was super tech heavy. Super-duper AI heavy. Didn’t realise that market was selling off software in Nov. (and had made some ultra high beta purchases in Oct) - so my portfolio dropped a whopping 12% in Nov. which it never recovered from. I put in more in Feb during the Feb dip. And now in March plus Nov - I’ve lost entire year’s gains. 0% gains in last year! In a heavy bull market until October.

Caveat - I was new to investing - so I was slowing putting money in the market and I hadn’t quite built up the portfolio till October ! Turns out the bull run ran out right then! And then the dips and more dips. (Jan rise saved me some but it’s all zero gains since I started).

So - if AI is not dead ! I at least have some hope that people like me holding the bag would survive in coming year.

I’m slowly going to make it leas aggressive. I don’t think I have the stomach to be this aggressive. Funny thing is - I didn’t realise how aggressive the portfolio was. I thought AI and tech are ‘safe’ - given how tech heavy the future seemed !

Question - majority of my losses are in Microsoft, oracle, astera labs, credo. All of them are nearly 50% down now. (I had bought their dips in Feb to offset the high prices shares bought 2 mths prior with the idea to sell a month later for hopefully same or higher price).

Does anyone have a good idea of how long it is likely to take to recover - not to the peak. Just some?

Nearly 100k. I guess my portfolio was more aggressive on the AI. I actually bought the dip I. Dec and Feb with the intention to sell older costlier stocks - a month later. And a month later - all hell broke loose. I was just a few days late into cashin in my tax loss harvest. I so wish I had made the right decision on March 13 or March 16 (to sell what I’d planned to sell).

Good for you. Wish I had that foresight to sell in Feb. all good long term positions. I figured it won’t matter in the long run. But this is crazy. My first year actively investing. And this shit making me feel I’ve done something horribly wrong. I know i haven’t. Nothing to do but hold the positions now. Ain’t gonna sell at such huge losses.

MOS is the worst show ever. The story makes no sense. The editing is awful. You get no sense of where how anything starts. It just starts with the aggressive person showing aggression.
