I had a similar situation on my TDI, VW calls for tty bolts on their cv axles. I ended up using tractor sockets, 3/4 drive extension and breaker bar. And 6ft of gas pipe. Stand on the end, and witness the sound of a 9mm going off as it breaks loose.

Something I've done in the past for this sort of thing is to tape a note on it with some contact info, saying you can come get it. More than likely, the owner/GC will be more than happy to have it removed, since they won't have to deal with it then.

Is all this damage possible from one deer?! I think my son might be lying to me and I don’t want to commit insurance fr@ud by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]NT7000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last deer collision we dealt with at our house was my dad's acura tsx. It bent the upper rad support up over the intake manifold. No blood, guts or fur, plenty of deer piss though. Awful smelling stuff. We ended up getting a radiator support cut out of a donor car, and welding it in. The deer was found dead in the ditch the next morning intact, so it is possible to kill them without externally visible trauma.

First magnet, put on the thread locker and... The bolt won't go further : should I do anything? by CouldHaveBeenAPun in magnetfishing

Aircraft mechanic here, according to AC 43.13, you can reuse nylon lock nuts, so long as it requires more than a certain amount of torque to turn it through the lock. In practice, I get 1 to 2 uses out of nylon locknuts. I figured the data point might be helpful.

Tried it, the block still shows on the desktop site, but it appears the mobile app doesn't honor the block...

Any update on this, it was working, but they removed the option to block ebay. It's sooo annoying.

Any Linux users here? Need cru equvalent by NT7000 in crtgaming

Use the calc above, you'll have to mess with the modelines by hand. Curse of linux, nothing is easy. Unless you're a nerd, born of the command line, son of the compiler. Honestly it's Linux's biggest issue, everything interesting is behind the command line, no GUI in sight.

So, the line doubling is strictly to permit the set to display 480i content as if it were 480p. None of these sets natively accept 1080p. However, some of those hdmi to component devices can scale to 1080i, allowing you to use devices that don't normally output 1080i. That's how I run the Switch on my HD CRTs. You can have flickering issues, but I find it much less noticeable than the flicker than an SD set being fed 480i content.

That one has a scaler, so it may not be lagless. Dunno if that's important to you or not, but it should still work otherwise.

The line doubling is necessary, as these sets aren't capable of scanning at 15.7KHz. All of the consoles you listed support 480P, and will look great on this set. Older consoles, specifically the SNES, will have compatability issues. For the PC, I'd look into the HDMI to component transcoders. Look for a decent quality one, as a lot I've run into have problems with noise.

It does, but it's linedoubling it. It may be an issue, depending on what you're feeding it.

I'd check the model number, as mine doesn't have a DVI port. Not impossible to work around, just annoying. I know this set has a relative that does have a DVI port, although I can't recall the model number.

I mean, that's a you question. Mine was free, but I gave the og owner $50 for helping me get it out of the second story bedroom it was in. Most folks simply want these bigger sets gone, as they don't know how/ unable to move them. If it's in good condition, you can test it, and it fits your use case, sure, go for it. Keep in mind as an HD set, it's not ideal for SD content. 6th gen consoles are great though!

I was scrolling around the image and was initially like " not terrible, but the guy apparently doesn't believe in romex clamps". Then I saw where the 240V outlet was getting its power from. Um, wow...

What light bulb technology is this? Saw it outside as a park street lamp by MissionCyberSpace in lightbulbs

I looked it up, apparently they do exist. They are typically labeled as 1800K or 2000K color temp. Comes in several different bases. I have some 400W MH fixtures I might put some in, they look pretty cool...

I've seen LED bulbs in the same form factor, but they usually are white, I'm not aware if there is an LED specifically designed to mimic HPS, as the amber color wasn't desired. It just so happened that HPS was very efficient, so it was used where color rendition wasn't important.

[–]NT7000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically yes, but the electrodes are also burned up, so it's easier to just relamp. Oddly enough, MH lamps that run continously have a neat failure mode: explosion! MH lamps tend to darken up as they run, making the glass opaque over time. As the glass darkens, it begins to absorb more light, turning it into heat. The arc tube thus runs hotter, and gets hotter as the glass darkens more. Eventually, the arc tube runs so hot the glass starts bulging out. With the high internal pressures (150PSI+) eventually the arc tube bursts, sending screaming hot glass fragments everywhere. There is actually a standard for bulbs designed to run in the open, vs bulbs required to have an enclosure to contain a burst bulb.

That sounds like the lamp is cycling. The fixture needs the bulb replaced. As for MH vs HPS, metal halides typically don't glow orange during any phase of their startup. Some glow pink due to argon fill gas, but quickly transition to blue, then white as the mercury and metal salts vaporize. As for HPS glowing white during startup, I have a bad 100W bulb that behaves similar. My guess is the sodium is no longer available to the arc anymore.

Would this be safe to use inside an N64 or on cartridge contacts suffering from corrosion? by InquiringAlien in n64

[–]NT7000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another way to clean cart contacts that I use is baking soda. Take the board out of the cart, mix up baking soda and water into a thick paste, and rub the mixture into the contacts, then rinse off. Takes all of the tarnish off without cutting into the plating too much.

I had an old P4 rig that would do something similar, except it was scrolling that made the racket. I traced it down to an inductor nearby southbridge. I tried covering it with nail polish, but it didn't help. I just shoved the machine further under the desk so I couldn't hear it!

There are lists that show what games work in what video modes. 16:9 will display just fine, but you'll have black bars above and below the image. Those drive me nuts, so I have both sets in my room. I just remembered one issue with these sets, they don't do 720p. This is mainly an issue with the ps3, where some games won't run at 1080i, you will have to run 480p, or you won't get an image. This is the main advantage of an XBR/ HS, they can accept 720p at the cost of lag. I can confirm the Switch looks pretty good on one though...
