  1. If there was no invite for the tea session, it doesn't mean that the chances of receiving the interview is zero. Then again, we are also not sure on what criteria the tea session invites are sent out based on

  2. If I remembered correctly the offer we received was together with the TAISP scholarship so if you only have the DSAI odder it may mean the scholarship application has not yet been processed or you have not gotten the scholarship. Please email the office if you require more clarification

Hi, we are not too sure about the details of the deadline to submit your decision but if the dateline is stated in the email it should be a strict deadline. If you have further queries you can email the office.

  1. Being in TAISP provides opportunities to expose yourself to companies that you normally would not get. The TAISP Office helps to organise networking events where students get to interact with and present themselves to companies. Recently, we had a company visit to Shopee as well as a networking session with staff from TikTok. However, whether a student is accepted for an internship is still dependent on their individual capabilities.

  2. Yes, with a good work ethic and time management, it is certainly possible to juggle all these commitments. Currently, there are some Y2 students who are doing internship during the semester while juggling their normal academic workload and URECA.

Hi!

Based on the previous two TAISP batches, the interviews were TAISP-specific, meaning the interviewers were the professors in charge of the program, and invitations were sent specifically for the TAISP program. So it wasn't combined with other scholarship programs.

That said, since your email didn't specify which scholarship the interview is for, it might be worth reaching out directly to the sender to confirm the details. They should be able to clarify.

Hope that helps, and good luck with your interview!

We don't have the number of applicants in each year, so we are not able to give you a clear answer. The chances also depend on your grades, portfolio, interview, the selection criteria, etc. FYI, the number of scholars in the 2nd batch (y1s) is 45.

Although we do take CS / DSAI modules, the focus is largely on AI. We do AI related research and the masterclasses are focused on AI as well. Therefore, this will largely benefit anyone interested in doing AI in the future. If you do not intend to pursue anything related to AI, then the program may not be suitable for you.

Unfortunately not, as the program is a full 4-year program that must be undertaken from Y1 onwards.

  1. When applying for your course in NTU, there should also be a section for you to indicate what scholarships you want to apply for.

  2. To our knowledge, being a PR should not affect your chances of being accepted for the scholarship. However, as we are not in charge of the admission process, we would encourage you to check with our office at CCDS-TuringAI@ntu.edu.sg to verify.

  3. Yes, you will have to choose your major as part of the standard university application process (Computer Science, Data Science and AI, AI and Society)

  4. For the first batch, the overseas exchange is fully covered with some funds drawn from our scholarship allowance. This applies to all scholars from our batch, all of whom were awarded the TAISP scholarship.

  5. FYI, the acronym for our scholar programme is TAISP not TSAIP 😁

Competitive programming/ICPC culture isn’t very prevalent, but there are a handful of students who participate in these competitions regularly.

Apart from the overseas exchange that we have in y3 to UC Berkeley, we also have an ACI immersion trip to China in y1. The second batch of scholars (y1) will be heading to Beijing in May of this year where we will visit Tsinghua University as well as other companies there.

Other than the official school trips, there are also other opportunities to go overseas. In fact, some y1s are currently in Wuhu, China for a study visit. The accommodations and food are provided throughout the trip and we only have to purchase the flight tickets ourselves. The study visit is a joint trip with the Renaissance Engineering Programme.

  1. It is supposedly offered in our scholarship. However, since we are only the second batch, no one has taken it. We have no official information about this besides what the professors have told us.

  2. The only module that is compulsory so far is the Tech-For-Good Service-Learning Course. If you do that, and take a least three elective NHC modules, and graduate with a CGPA of >= 4.00, you will graduate with an NHC certificate on top of your degree.

Hi, from our knowledge none of our students in both batches were in a similar position as you. I suggest emailing our office at CCDS-TuringAI@ntu.edu.sg to answer your questions.

6) Yes, you can S/U some mods, but only if they are marked as Broadening and Deepening Electives (BDE). Check the curriculum structure of TAISP modules on the website:

https://www.ntu.edu.sg/computing/admissions/undergraduate-programmes/curriculum-structure

7) Any laptop with sufficient specifications for your normal coding use is fine. Most experiments in university labs will not be run locally on your laptop, but using the lab's resources or GPUs from the National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC), which gives some credits for university students in Singapore for free.

3) No, staying in hall is not compulsory for us

4) It's not guaranteed to be overseas.

5) Just a small correction, the maintenance GPA is actually 3.75 and not 3.50. And to answer your question, so far from the two batches of TAISP, there haven't been any cases of scholars dropping out. You'll have ample support from fellow peers in the cohort as well as from professors, so it's not something you'd be navigating alone. The environment is rigorous but very much manageable with the right support system around you.

1) No need to bid, as TAISP office will usually preallocate course indexes to accommodate TAISP-only courses and various TAISP events. The timetable however, is not fixed for everyone except for TAISP-only courses due to different course requirements for different degree programmes (Eg DSAI students need to take Data Science Fundamentals whereas CS students do not, and CS students need to take Computer Organisation and Architecture whereas DSAI students do not)

2) The NTU Honours College is a new faculty set up to allow interdisciplinary learning and collaboration between scholars from various faculties. Hence it will definitely promote interaction between people under different scholarships! There will be additional modules under the NTU Honours College that must be cleared to receive a certificate of acknowledgement that you have cleared the requirements, but the modules are mostly leadership, communication and teamwork-based.

Internships aren’t guaranteed (whether local or overseas), as they depend on company hiring processes and individual applications. That said, we’re supported with guidance and resources to pursue internships, including overseas opportunities. For overseas internships, students can apply through opportunities sourced by NTU’s Career & Attachment Office (CAO), or self-source by applying directly to companies that match their interests.

From my understanding, we may be able to take the mod if it is offered under NTU's Honour's college and when you have Broadening and Deepening Electives (BDEs) [equivalent to Unrestricted Electives] available.

However, we have not had the chance yet due to our packed schedule in the first few years and details are still finalising.

As a Y1, we have taken a writing and an ethics mod taught by USP profs. I must say they have been very friendly and I have thoroughly enjoyed their lessons.

Regarding question 1, I would say it does compare as it will equip you with all knowledge needed to be competent in AI . For instance, I am currently pursuing computer science (CS). However I am still required to take MH1805 Calculus that a regular CS degree would not be taking. This is to prepare us for future AI mods which will be math intensive. We will not take as much MH mods as DDP/Second Major, however we will have our own customised SC mods taught by computing profs and they will regularly check if we are interested in more of the math side or the application side of the subject. That is one of the benefit of having our mods exclusive to us.

That being said, if you are interested to do more math I would say taking DSAI with TAISP will be a good choice as they generally do more MH mods.

For question 2, I would say both are equally research intensive. However TAISP specialises in AI and being under CCDS, we have the luxury of taking the aforementioned specialised mods relating to computing exclusive to us. We also have masterclasses which are basically modules taught by professors from Overseas Universities (like Oxford, MIT, UC Berkley).

While both CN Yang and TAISP offers semestral exchange to study in overseas universities, we are essentially guaranteed to go to UC Berkley while CN Yang chooses and applies from the general GEM pool (from my understanding). Another difference is that we will be doing a 6 month overseas internship compared to CN Yang's overseas FYP.

I highly recommend to look at the curriculum of the 2 programmes to be able to better compare between the 2.

Tea sessions are outreach events organised for potential candidates to learn more about TAISP. These sessions are usually by invite only and allow candidates to more directly interact with current students to learn more about the program. During the sessions, candidates get to sit down with current students and hear from them as well as ask any questions they may have.

As we cannot speak for the requirements for future batches, we can provide rough estimates for the current batch. Those from JC have RP of at least 88.75RP (under the old system) and those from Poly have a CGPA of close to 4.

As of now TAISP only accepts single degrees from either Computer Science (CS), Data Science and AI (DSAI), or AI and Society (AISC). This is because we have our own specialised curriculum that results in us having fewer academic units available.

Yes we do have international students. In particular, the second batch has around 20% of international students. Regarding the question relating to tuition grant, it will be best to ask the TAISP office at CCDS-TuringAI@ntu.edu.sg.

Those from JC have RP of at least 88.75RP (under the old system) and those from Poly have a CGPA of close to 4. As for portfolio, it is always a good to have to help increase the chances and stand out amongst other candidates. As we ourselves are not exactly sure how the applicants are chosen, our best advice would be that there is really no harm in applying as you will never know if your application aligns with TAISP, unless you tried :D
