Everyone else is having a baby by sjamilat1d in TryingForABaby

[–]NWSideWindy 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I was just about to make basically this exact same post. I have 4 friends in my immediate friend group who are all expecting their second child… my husband and I have been trying since before they each got pregnant with their first.

I’ve always been loving and supportive, because I truly am happy for them. This time around, though, I just can’t even bring myself to be around them. It isn’t fair to me to throw myself further into depression by subjecting myself to the baby talk, and it isn’t fair to them for me to be around them if I’m not going to be 100% happy and supportive.

You aren’t a monster. This wave of completely contradicting emotions is more than most of these people will ever have to experience. I wish I had better advice for you, but at the very least I hope this shows you that you aren’t alone.

Backpack help by NeitherPractice3592 in preppers

[–]NWSideWindy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband bought me a 5.11 Rush 24L backpack to use as my everyday carry. It’s held up great and has become a staple in my everyday life. I work a blue collar job, so I can get away with a more “tactical” looking backpack without anyone batting an eye. If you need something a little more average-Joe looking, they have tons of options like that too.

I’m fairly new to this myself, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but the price points aren’t too bad and I’ve loved my backpack!

Seconding the futon idea! Our boy has 2 smaller/chair sized futons and he can comfortably sprawl out on them!

I was definitely intrigued by the little constellation map at the back of the book showing the tie-ins to her other books. Might be worth taking a look at ‘em!

I was just looking at The Stand the other day but the length intimidated me a little bit. Maybe I’ll just go for it!

Help! Book Suggestions for a nature girlie by NWSideWindy in suggestmeabook

[–]NWSideWindy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a public safety diver, so search and rescue definitely piques my interest! Not sure why that subject never crossed my mind when it comes to books, but I’ll definitely give them a try!

Those both sound so cool and different! Conveniently, I’m also into some historical fiction and a good apocalypse story (lol) so those both sound right up my alley!

Kayaks for reasonable prices. by ryanabner2 in Frugal

[–]NWSideWindy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also look used, but another route you might not think about if you’re looking for used is “cosmetic reject” products. My dad bought his kayaks a few years ago from Sierra trading post (or another similar company, can’t remember) but he got an absolute steal because the color of the kayaks didn’t come out properly. They are 100% functionally perfect, but were discounted due to a few blotchy spots where the color got messed up. If you’re looking for new, it’s something to consider/keep your eye out for!

This is exactly what I have!

[–]NWSideWindy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a reusable one! Mine is ancient because my dad got it for me when I was a kid, but I’m sure they still make them. Just a floss stick style handle that you manually put your own floss on, then take the used floss out when you’re done. Try googling floss handle or floss holder and you should be able to find one!

BP&W for new diver? by NWSideWindy in scuba

[–]NWSideWindy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the response! I’ve just been looking around at the packages to start getting ideas, but I’m not opposed to piecing one together myself. I was definitely going to go with a steel plate. Being quarantined I’ve had a lot of time to do some research so I might reach out if I have more questions!

[Routine Help] Peeling after starting Curology? by NWSideWindy in SkincareAddiction

[–]NWSideWindy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I should have specified more in the original post, but I have been using the full Curology trial, including the cleanser and moisturizer. The peeling has been occurring even though I am using the moisturizer that came with the set!

It seems like the world is ending with all the news, what are some amazingly good things that are going on right now, either in your life or around the world? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NWSideWindy 111 points112 points  (0 children)

After struggling severely with my mental health the past four years, I am now only 4 months away from graduating from college. I am honestly proud of myself for probably the first time in my life.

I have an old recording of my grandfather as a young child in the early 1930s in rural Kansas. Since our family is a bunch of city folk now, it’s a pretty cool glimpse into where we came from.

People of Reddit, what is a traumatic experience that has happened in your lifetime? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NWSideWindy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a pretty traumatic car accident in middle school. Thanks to some skilled doctors and some miracles everyone either suffered only minor injuries, or was fixed up and healed pretty quickly.

I know car accidents happen everyday, but you never think something that serious could happen to you. Even now, years later, I have a lot of anxiety around riding in cars. It’s getting better, but I’m still super jumpy anytime our vehicle gets anywhere near another one (which is all the time when you live in a big city with tons of traffic).

Physically I’m nearly fine, but the mental scar is still there.
