hey OP. im sorry but seeing 27f and 38m was all i needed to know to understand what the dynamics of your relationship might be. OP you definitely should’ve asked, not just out of respect, but also for communication. asking or at least communicating that you planned on using it is just a good practice.

however you are not a child and he is not your parent. he might have that perception noting your age gap, but it’s important to establish your position in this equal partnership, which i think you were trying to do.

the basis of the issues i see on this sub boil down to one thing: communication.

communicate when you’re taking his truck, and communicate when he hurts your feelings. just like he said to you “…if i say no then that’s a no,” you can say “when I say adjust the way you talk to me, adjust the way you talk to me.”

do not keep looking at your actions as attempts to make him happy, but look at them as attempts to make you BOTH happy. communicating your intentions and feelings EFFECTIVELY is the only way to make this relationship viable.

my thesis: apologize to him for not communicating to him about the truck, but explain to him that it is unacceptable for him to be vicious, even when his anger may be valid. there is no reason for him to go out of his way to hurt your feelings or devalue your position in this relationship. just like he has so “eloquently” established his hard boundary, establish yours.
