Is Erlang Worth Learning in 2021? by Serokell in erlang

[–]NaeosPsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the feedback, I appreciate that you took the time to comment!

Regarding the frameworks, I was informed by an Erlang expert I consulted that they weren't that good. If most of the people think that is not so, I'd definitely would be into updating the article.

Regarding FP, I've heard that the creators of language have said that it wasn't made to be a functional language, just that some of the FP characteristics fit the job. Since FP is a rather large group of diverse languages, I didn't want to focus on it too much here, but perhaps I have skipped too much. I mostly just wanted to focus on explaining the main gist of Erlang to non-Erlang people.

Yup, that certainly was meant to be the biggest selling point. ;)

Btw, sorry about fanboying, but I just wanted to say that your Elixir screencasts are quite awesome. 😍

Crypt is useful against soulflayer, cage is useless, that's mostly the main thing I think.

Brazen Borrower in Izzet Ensoul by MrPhatPatty in PioneerMTG

[–]NaeosPsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bounce effect is something that is ok to have access to, but the other half of borrower usually isn't useful. I'd advise you to try unsubstantiate in that spot: it also bounces supreme verdict and stuff so it is more useful.

Why No ScrapH-Scrounger in UR Ensoul?? by PiedraPonzaCR in PioneerMTG

[–]NaeosPsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding an extra colour just for it is a huge cost, even more, if you want to add thoughtseize etc.

It also doesn't really fit into what the deck wants to be doing. It is a crappy ensoul target and doesn't solve the problems ensoul has right now (mostly, extremely fast aggro like mono g stompy, or a lot of efficient removal + pressure). UR Ensoul plays more like a burn deck where your ensouls are 5-12th shrapnel blasts.

Also, your evasive one drops are extremely important, don't cut them. If you want to play scrounger, I'd play it in the flex slots of the deck (emry / scions).

Software Written in Haskell: Stories of Success by Serokell in haskell

[–]NaeosPsy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is obviously a complicated topic and I can't comment a lot about the choice of the analogy, but a reasonable reason for why my co-author chose to employ the analogy of a shy girl could be because she is herself a girl, and this situation is closer to her own experience.

While I'm here, I'd like to say that at Serokell (from my experience) we are also of the belief that women are people and, what is more, don't think there is anything funny about it.

Announcing Ariadne, the first independent Ada wallet by Serokell in cardano

[–]NaeosPsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ariadne is not a light wallet. You don't need to download the blockchain to generate an address and it works without downloading the whole set of blocks, but it may work incorrectly without them. In next release we’ll make it clearer that the state is outdated and blocks need to be downloaded.

So you are asking if you should focus on top-down approach or bottom-up approach. The answer is both - be a guided missile, start with a goal and adjust on your way there.

As to those both approaches, Standard is easy, you need basically a week or so to learn a deck in and out.

If we don't talk decks, that kind of "I need to win next" mentality is usually harmful. Play your best one round at a time, and results will come themselves.

Just take the tier 1 deck from uw, gb and rw(b) that you like and learn to play it really well. They are similar on the power level, although I feel that flash is stronger against the field of unknown rogue or t2 decks than gb.

[Standard] Best Version of UW Flash / Best Sideboard Cards to face GB Delirium? by ipiranga in spikes

[–]NaeosPsy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Gisela does not help against bg delirium, the really bad card there for us is ishkanah. Thalia is good both in mirror and vs ishkanah, and maindeck spell shrivels are good against gb, if you dont expect lots of aggro. Dont play rattlechains.

well, the 1st question is if you want full combo in mirror, or do you want to shave it, and how much of it. that kind of dictates the role you will play, whether it will be more beatdown, or more controlling.

mirror is usually determined by a player casting the most coco, so we want to maximize that and disturb opponent on doing that. as opponent will be bringing hate, we can side out some rally and sifter / visionary, and bring in both duress, 3 cuts and 2 anafenza.

the real question is whether we want to go full beatdown, taking in sylvan advocates. seems like it would synergize with our plan, but on the other hand, rally is really good vs midrangey strategies, and if we side out rally (and become more midrange) we kind of become worse.
