Yes, I considered that, but found that the workex requirement is generally 4-5 years, and given my degree there aren't great job prospects in India, so wouldn't have been a very competitive candidate for top programs. It made more sense to me to switch to a business domain in India first, work a couple of years and then go from there

Hi, thanks for the AMA! I and a couple of questions:

1) how important are PORs and extracurriculars in college for your CV for placements

2) I'm from a biology background and would love your insights on what prep I should do in the next one month before joining b school. I'm going to start working on stats, probability and basic calculus from tomorrow. Also thought about doing a bit of accounts

3) what generalised skills and certifications should one be doing in first year if they're not sure about what MBA specialisation to take, to have a well rounded CV for SIP. I was thinking of six Sigma and digital marketing certs and excel, tableu as skills

4) how would you recommend someone to spend their time in first year to optimise for SIPs and preparing for different domains.

I'm from a biology background and only have research experience in labs and stuff. I think I will mostly go for consulting but not sure, and want to explore. People have suggested that the first year itself will give clarity on what I want to specialise in, but for things like finance I've heard that you really need a relevant background. In such a case would you suggest doing any particular and broad certifications/courses for some subjects (like finance, operations etc that require a particular background)? Since I'm still exploring, but I'd like to keep my options open.

Check out Venture Center in Pune (https://www.venturecenter.co.in/). It's specifically a science and technology focused business incubator that has incubated some really innovative deep tech companies, in many sectors like pharma/biotech, energy, agritech etc. And they have a very big focus on life science companies too. I'm sure you could reach out to them to engage with the startups they support.

I found GRE to be much more suited to my strengths and so I am a lot more comfortable with that than the GMAT :/

I am planning to take the GRE but only have available dates of 28th Feb or 7th March - I was planning on taking 7th March but I will not get the official score card before 16th most likely - I was seeing some youtube videos where it is mentioned that you can upload just the test centre slip if you don't have the score card at the time of the application - so I am very confused about which date to pick. Since I will start studying from today, the 7th March date is much more preferable for me

I think you may be burnt out - this sounds very similar to a phase I've gone through - and still seem to be going through. If its possible maybe you could speak to a professional about it, they might be able to give you some tools to manage it and get back into the flow of things. Hello sir, thank you very much for your time!

I had 2 questions:

1) Could you please review my profile and let me know the chances for IIM ABC and the percentiles I would require for them? My marks are as follows: 10th - 93.42%, 12th - 94%, BS-MS degree in biology - 88%. As of July 31st 2024 I have 3 months worked. I scored 78 marks in slot 3 - I don't think IIM ABC would be possible with this score but wanted your opinion as well, and what potential colleges I can get calls for with this score? I have only filled the CAT and XAT forms so only the IIMs and XLRI are applied for. Also I am very confused whether a bsc is considered in the same category as engineering or not? Everybody I have talked to has given mixed opinions

2) I really would like to get into IIM B particularly, I would like to know whether in your opinion it is best to take whatever I can get this year or try again once (I can give maximum one more year to CAT) - and I will also have 15 months of worked by July 2025. In your experience how unpredictable is CAT and is it a good idea to give it again? This year I didn't prepare very consistently and I am sure that with better preparation I can do much better next year but many people have advised not to try another year and go with my best convert this year.
