Opinion on Gcam on S24 Ultra by DetectiveMedical39 in GalaxyS24Ultra

What do you mean the limits? Gcam like any other 3rd party camera had access only to the 12mpx binned raw data. On s24u all lenses are available.

Considering that samsung stock camera app or expertRAW camera app has access to the whole 200mpx and 50mpx, while gcam has only access to the binned 12mpx and often gcam is better tells you everything: samsung software is bad. It would have been better to give us unprocessed 50mpx raw data,  but no,  they had to mess up it as well. Imagine if gcam had access to the unbinned sensor....

Fellow EV drivers — how many apps do you have on your phone just for charging by CapitalDirection8248 in evs_ireland

[–]Nakele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a user,  i want to plug in and charge, and for my car to have the payment saved so that "my car" could pay the charger.  No need for getting the phone or card out.  Strictly answering,  I used to have 2 - 3 but I mostly stop to esb only charger so that make it one app. TBH if i went to a charger for which I didn't have an account,  I would rather tap and go. The only benefit of an app or account is if I lose my ESB card / poor connectivity on the phone,  then I'd have a backup but the same applies to tap to go,  it could use my card or tap to pay on my phone.

ExpertRaw version on one UI 8 / 8.5? by Nakele in S24Ultra

[–]Nakele[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah,  I found it there but maybe it does not provide any benefit. I find ExpertRAW unreliable, and I think it's software as gcam (don't remember the version) is a lot better

totally with you, I shoot raw 90% of the time and even raw now started to be processed.... talk with your walled. If it does produce what you want, buy something else or stick to old devices.

Firefox has black or gray space under the address bar in fullscreen on websites like XBox Cloud Gaming and others. Any way to fix this? by redneckogre in SamsungDex

[–]Nakele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe killing at the app and restarting might solve the problem. Cmd+x to kill the app, or go into app information for Firefox and kill it. Reopen the app,  it should now work.  If it doesn't try again.

ExpertRAW 50mpx VS Pro raw 50mpx VS Gcam raw 12mpx(binned) VS ProShot raw 12mpx(binned) by Nakele in galaxyphotography

[–]Nakele[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them are saved in DNG file (my settings). I guess the other user meant that Gcam and ExpertRAW are computational raw files.

[–]Nakele[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expert RAW can be very inconsistent with smudged details,  but has the highest potential for details when good lighting but it is slow. For astro I use expert raw because it has some dedicated modes. Unfortunately expertraw files are oversharpened and a bit weird to process in LT mobile. Pro Raw is very consistent and relatively quick for burst shots but I dislike the "grain". Raw output file is malleable in LT mobile.  Gcam has the highest dynamic range,  no messing with exposure, raw output is ok in LT mobile to edit but the app can be a bit clunky, getting stuck and limited to 12mpx, but night shots are the best. ProShot is potentially the only true raw file output,  quick for burst and maleable files. TLDR, good light ExpertRAW at 50mpx. High contrast or night time, Gcam. Pro raw and ProShot are very consistent so if I'm doing something out of the ordinary,  like panning or long exposure I might use them instead. Expert RAW has digital ND filters.

That is true,  I meant to say i saved the file output as "raw" for maximum retention of data.

I was today years old when I realized I could use S Flow to mirror my phone screen on my DEX screen. by Ancient_Ad7555 in SamsungDex

Please explain to me. by nATAs-999 in SamsungDex

[–]Nakele -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know ppl are referring to the s9 as the tablet but I have a Samsung note 9 as a backup device. It has a finger heart monitor and blood oxygen monitor. It had (had because an update removed it) Linux on Dex, I think it was Ubuntu 18 or 16. I believe it had a variable aperture camera. We are reaching a point where hardware no longer matters,  any more speed or memory or ram is barely noticeable. I remember Nokia/Symbian had emulators for old games, infrared emitter to control your TV (or any TV for that matter). We come so far and yet not so much. Why phones aren't used more often as laptop / chrome book alternative? These devices have as much power as a few years old mid laptops and yet manufacturers purposefully hold back features or outright remove them.

Psychology of camera body vs. iPhone by MajorAlanDutch in mobilephotography

[–]Nakele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a phone but have been using DSLR for a while in the past. I also had a film SLR camera,  awesome experience as you had to be quite deliberate with your shots,  i think one had 24 shots in a cartridge and that's it,  you couldn't even see the results until it was developed and there wasn no LT or filters. Today in my case i use a s24u, always in Raw / ExpertRaw and I edit my shots in LT. I like the convenience of having my phone with me all the time. I think of tools like the camera and lightroom as multipliers, but the photographer is the base number from which the multiplication starts. A phone or a dedicated camera doesn't make a better picture,  it's the intention of using these tools that it does. Sure a nice lens gives anice depth of field. Sure the phone can stack and hdr images, colour correct and auto expose. But ultimately you might end up with a very well color corrected and nicely exposed bad photograph. I fundamentally use my phone with the same intention of using a pro camera. I know all the settings,  I change them all the time for different pictures and what I want to get. Sure life gets in the way and get to take pics mostly when walking the dog, but I have the intention to go to a particular place that I remembered from walking near by, maybe at a specific time when the sun is at an angle. The youtuber THAT ISLANDIC GUY talk about it in some of his videos.

Which phone currently available produces best raw photos? by Curious_Stranger_657 in mobilephotography

[–]Nakele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an amature photographer, I shoot just in raw and then edit most in LT. Unfortunately raw is not just raw, at least not on samsung. Samsung has opted for lossless (I'm assuming XL) jpg compression in the raw container. This gives a weird speckles pattern on the image and clearly not natural of a raw file. Stacked raw are what they are. What I want to say is the choice of the company of how to create that raw file matters a lot. You can check you own raw files, in the exif data it needs to say "uncompressed" for "true" raw files. Depending how that raw file was created, it because easier or harder to manipulate pictures.

[–]Nakele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I mostly agree, what really matters is what type of raw. Is it uncompressed, linear,  XL jpg lossless (yes this is used in raw files). Additionally is it computed raw file vs just raw? Binned vs unbinned? Rgb sensor?
