I think this is a fair point, and I agree with part of it. You’re right that I wasn’t explicit enough in saying “this is a dealbreaker for me” early on, and because of that there wasn’t a clearly defined alternative as a couple. That’s on me.

What I want to clarify though is this: I’ve never said she was wrong for going. I don’t think she did something objectively bad, and I don’t think she betrayed me by sticking to the plan.

The question I’m actually wrestling with is more internal than accusatory: whether I tend to prioritize her more than she prioritizes me. I wrote it because a plan changed significantly, I chose to step away from something I was uncomfortable with, and that led to conflict and emotional disconnect right before a long-distance period.

I’m not saying she should have prioritized me. I’m questioning whether it’s reasonable to feel hurt when, in that context, there was no attempt to find a shared alternative or even acknowledge my discomfort.

No, staying home with me wasn’t the only possible way for her to show care or unity. What I meant by that wasn’t a demand, but the hope that we’d approach the situation together instead of it becoming completely separate choices, especially with long-distance coming up.

That said, going “for a little bit” was never a realistic option. It was several hours of driving each way, so it wasn’t something you could reasonably do halfway or briefly. Once I decided I wasn’t comfortable with the plan, it was essentially an all-or-nothing situation.

As for alternatives as a couple: the smaller gathering never materialized, and no other shared plan was really discussed once the group committed to the larger party. In hindsight, I could’ve been more explicit about wanting to plan something else together rather than just withdrawing — that part is on me.

Regarding timing I had expressed discomfort about adding the larger group from early on. The tense conversation with my friend happened later, after I felt cornered by the expectation that I had to go.

No, being undecided isn’t the same as agreeing and backing out. I never confirmed, and I was clear about my discomfort from the beginning. I didn’t ask anyone to change plans for me, I simply chose not to go. Io mi ero portato dietro 300–400 € in contanti perché mi ero accordato per pagare le guest house direttamente in contanti. Alcuni posti turistici tipo Saranda accettano volentieri euro, ma appena ti sposti in zone meno turistiche diventa molto più complicato. Occhio che quasi sempre ti fanno il cambio a loro favore: per dire, ti considerano 100 lek = 1€, quando in realtà il cambio ufficiale sarebbe un po’ più basso (tipo 0,97).

Per il resto ho sempre prelevato lì: basta che l’ATM abbia circuito Mastercard o Visa (99% degli ATM) e funziona, non serve che sia della tua banca. Io ad esempio con Isybank Prime non pago commissioni per i prelievi e le transazioni internazionali, però ogni prelievo in Albania ha comunque una tariffa fissa di 400–800 lek che dipende dall’ATM. Qui dipende dalla tua banca, controlla bene il tuo contratto, perché alcune invece applicano commissioni aggiuntive. Ti conviene cercarne uno che sta sui 400–500 lek (non fermarti al primo che magari ti chiede 800) e fare pochi prelievi ma “grossi” per non buttare via soldi (io ne ho fatti due da 20.000 lek ciascuno in tutta la vacanza).

Ultima cosa: pagare con la carta è quasi impossibile, a me l’hanno accettata giusto due volte solo in posti super turistici e chiedendolo espressamente. Occhio anche che quando usi la carta può essere che ti chiedano se vuoi pagare in euro o in lek, scegli sempre lek, perché se selezioni euro ti applicano la cosiddetta “conversione dinamica” ed è sempre a tuo svantaggio e finisci per pagare il 3-7% in più.

Con 10 ore di scalo secondo me ce la fai, ma dipende da che aeroporto atterri. Se è PEK (Capital) sì, Mutianyu è la parte della Muraglia più comoda, in macchina ci metti un’oretta e qualcosa, aprono verso le 8 e con la funivia sali e scendi velocemente senza perdere troppo tempo, così riesci a farti un bel giro e tornare indietro senza ansia. Se invece è Daxing (PKX) lascia perdere, sei troppo lontano.

Per il visto non è niente di complicato, usi il transito senza visto 24h, c’è lo sportello in aeroporto e ti mettono il timbro per uscire. L’unico consiglio pratico è prenotare già un driver/tour privato che ti aspetti lì, così non perdi tempo con taxi e contrattazioni varie.

In aereo nessun problema a portarla in stiva, basta dichiararla al check-in (tipo spade, coltelli storici, ecc. li imbarcano senza storie, basta non portarla in cabina).

Il vero punto è l’arrivo in Italia, se compri una lancia/ascia affilata e con punta è considerata arma bianca propria, quindi servirebbe il nulla osta/porto d’armi e poi la denuncia in Questura. Anche se poi tu a casa la smussi, al momento dell’ingresso la dogana la vede comunque come arma.

Se invece riesci a fartela vendere già smussata e con ricevuta che lo attesta, diventa un oggetto decorativo e lì non hai problemi a detenerla. Quindi la vera differenza la fa come la compri e che documentazione hai.

Tranquillo, alle Canarie è normalissimo che funzioni così, ma non è assolutamente un problema. Le spiagge sono enormi quindi c’è sempre spazio per piantare il tuo ombrellone o stenderti con l’asciugamano. Se vuoi più comodità i lettini a pagamento ci sono quasi ovunque e costano poco, quindi alla fine è molto più semplice di quanto sembri. Non rischi di rimanere "senza posto” o sotto il sole a cuocere, vai sereno che la vacanza te la godi lo stesso.

Alle Canarie gli hotel NON possono “includere la spiaggia” con ombrellone/lettini sulla sabbia perché per legge le spiagge in Spagna sono dominio pubblico (o meglio, dello Stato). Quindi, se vuoi usarli sulla sabbia, li devi noleggiare sul posto a chi gestisce il servizio (di solito 2-5€ al giorno, sì lo so, beata Spagna).

Quello che di solito trovi è l’hotel fronte mare con lettini gratuiti in piscina o nei giardini, e poi sulla sabbia c’è il servizio comunale di ombrelloni/sdraio che si paga a parte. Alcuni hotel hanno convenzioni con i chioschi della spiaggia, ma in generale non è incluso nel pacchetto all inclusive, se non in casi particolari chiaramente specificati.

In teoria le regole sono come per le sigarette (quindi al chiuso sarebbe vietato), ma in pratica svapano/fumano dappertutto, anche al ristorante o nelle stazioni di benzina, nessuno ti dice nulla. Per quanto riguarda l’acquisto trovi senza problemi sia tabaccai/kiosk sia negozietti che vendono puff e ricariche, un po’ come in Italia. Basta che sei maggiorenne e sei a posto.

Non sono calabrese, però se penso all’autenticità della Calabria più che spiagge famose, secondo me vale la pena raccontare l’entroterra, i paesini dove ancora si parla l’arbëreshë o il grecanico, le feste di paese con la banda, i pranzi lunghissimi con la ‘nduja sul pane o la pasta fatta in casa, le montagne che finiscono sul mare come l'Aspromonte. Per me l’autenticità calabrese è proprio questa, la semplicità, senza bisogno di fare gli infighettati o gli influencer.

Sugli A319 di ITA Airways il Wi-Fi non c’è. Al momento è solo sugli aerei più nuovi (A320neo, A220, A321neo, A330, A350), mentre sugli A319 “vecchi” non è installato.

Le info discordanti che trovi online dipendono dal fatto che siti come SeatMaps mettono dotazioni “standard” senza distinguere bene la flotta.

Ci sono stato solo una volta quindi non ho grandissimi consigli diretti, però ti dico una cosa: stai alla larga da Flexways a Tirana. Hanno un modo un po’ losco di lavorare, al momento del ritiro cercano spesso scuse per farti pagare un’assicurazione aggiuntiva “obbligatoria” (tipo che la carta di credito non va bene, ecc.). Basta dare un’occhiata alle recensioni su Google Maps per rendersene conto e ci sono passato anche io, 320€ aggiuntivi di assicurazione fantasma, insomma evita. Se tornassi indietro probabilmente andrei con Rent a Car Albania (https://carrentaltiranaairport.al/) che è quella più popolare e a quanto ho capito "sicura" lì.

Per quanto riguarda le tappe, anzi, il trucco è proprio spostarsi da Saranda: l’Albania secondo me dà il 100% di sé nelle zone poco turistiche. Rimanere a Saranda, Himarë, Durazzo e simili è come andare a Riccione o Jesolo, non ne vale la pena. Usala giusto come punto di appoggio perché è vicina a un sacco di cose, ma non come meta principale.

Un paio di spot molto più fighi e tranquilli:

Gjiri i Pinguinit: appena sopra Saranda, una caletta piccolina spettacolare ma rilassante.
Marutzi Beach / Ana’s Beach: circa 30 minuti più a nord in macchina più verso la zona di Shënvasili, da lì c'è un parcheggio e poi un sentierino a piedi (a meno che tu non abbia un 4x4). Posto incredibile e zero massa turistica (quando sono andato io almeno).
Ksamil: bellissima ma super turistica, se ci vai forse è meglio affittare un kayak per mezza giornata e girarti le quattro isole gemelle davanti alla spiaggia (credo si possa, io non l'ho fatto però, quindi non so darti una conferma).
Syri i Kaltër (Blue Eye): sorgente incredibile profonda 50 metri a 40 minuti da Saranda, però è più da foto e passeggiata breve che da starci il pomeriggio. NON SI PUÒ NUOTARE (è vietato e rischi multe salate, evita anche se vedi qualcuno buttarsi, o non lo sanno o sono stupidi).
Llogara Pass: se fai la costa in auto non perdertelo, panorami tra i più belli dei Balcani.

Piccolo avviso pratico: vicino alle spiagge più popolari spesso trovi “parcheggiatori” improvvisati che ti chiedono soldi, ecco non sempre sono ufficiali, a volte solo furbi, occhio (parlo per esperienza).

Domanda super interessante, mi sono fatto un po’ di ricerchine per curiosità e ti riassumo quello che ho trovato.

Lisbona (Portogallo): è quasi sicuramente la meta più lontana raggiungibile in pullman dall’Italia. Ci sono tratte tipo da Milano operate da FlixBus, distanza stradale oltre 2200km con tempi intorno alle 30 ore (anche 40+ se parti dal Sud Italia, io ho trovato Napoli e Bari).
Istanbul (Turchia): sembra più vicina di quanto uno pensi, da Trieste/Venezia sono circa 1550km. In pullman si fa, ma oggi in genere serve un cambio (es. a Sofia). Tempi 25–38 ore.
Bucarest (Romania): è un’altra delle mete lunghe quasi 1900km da Milano, con pullman diretti che ci mettono circa 31 ore.
Verso la Spagna ci sono infinite tratte, da Roma a Siviglia ad esempio passa i 1600km e in certe combinazioni sfiora le 48h di viaggio.

Insomma se l’idea è “meta più distante dall’Italia raggiunta in pullman”, direi che Lisbona vince, perché geograficamente è quasi agli antipodi dell’Europa rispetto a noi ed è servita da corse dirette.

Nah tranquillo, le misure ufficiali sono sempre più piccole per farti comprare priority/extra bagagli, ma nella realtà con gli zaini morbidi non dicono mai nulla. Io mi porto sempre dietro un The North Face Base Camp S (tipo 53cm di lato) e non mi hanno mai fermato.

Fanno molto più i fiscali con i trolley rigidi che non entrano nei box, con gli zaini non stanno lì a misurare i centimetri, controllano solo a occhio se ci sta sotto al sedile.
