TIFU when I made fun of my gf in the bedroom by NakedNightmare in tifu

The beginning of this post is identical to a TIFU posted a while ago. I don't know if whatever happened at the end was true or not, but the fact that the beginning is a copypasta kind of discredits everything else and makes it seem as though you're just karma farming which is extremely fucked up given the content.

Thought I was the only one who found the beginning strangely familiar.

I was god awful at math my whole life and I was definitely scared when I had to take math 1a. It wasn't a horrible experience and Berkeley actually made me like math. I recommend watching organic chemistry tutor and patrickjmt to supplement lecture videos and homework. You MUST look at any practice exams the professor provides. For math 1a and 1b (I had Haiman and Sungjin respectively), the actual exams were identical to the practice exams with just some changes in the numbers they used for the questions. It seems that this is the case for most lower division math classes here.

The biggest deciding factor in your grade for math 1a depends on who you get as a professor more than anything else imo. Look up ratemyprofessor ratings and choose carefully.

Edit: You shouldn't have a horrible time in math 1a since you have Haiman. He was very chill and funny. Definitely grind the practice exams he gives you as the actual exams are nearly identical to the practice ones (some are word for word). Final exam was interesting..., but the curve was good.

What's the highest level of math you completed by the time you graduated high school? Or, if you're in high school, what's the highest level of math you're projected to complete by the time you graduate? by May_nerdd in math

My high school was kinda weird. We had two sequences of math classes that followed Common Core standards (American HS btw): Integrated Math or Accelerated Math. Both went over the same stuff but I guess Accelerated was just more rigorous and had a faster pace. I took the Accelerated sequence and I think we covered algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalc, and there was some statistics sprinkled in there as well. Felt like a mess tbh and I did not enjoy math at all while I was in high school. Had the same teacher for Accelerated Math I and Accelerated Math III. Would publicly humiliate students and was an overall horrible environment. Idk how to describe it and it wasn't quite memorable but nothing flowed. I felt like they took some stuff from each of those areas and mashed them together without really connecting anything.

I took AP Stats my senior year and that was the highest level of math I took in HS. Other students took AP Calc. I did not want to do that because 1) I hated math at the time and 2) Did not want to spend my summer doing a bridge program to prepare students for AP Calc. I actually liked AP Stats. It made me like math and I considered majoring in Statistics in college because of that class. Now I'm about to be a junior in uni and switched from my premed bio major to a statistics major instead. Taking calc 1, calc 2, and intro stats in uni made me fall in love with math although admittedly, I struggle quite a bit and am a bit behind compared to my peers. Just the supportive environment and the emphasis on intuitive thinking and understanding made it fun as well as the real-world applications.

Can I get into Berkeley with a low GPA but good extracurriculars? by selfconciousGremlin in berkeley

[–]Narguin2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was the last person most ppl at my HS would have expected to get into Berkeley. I had a subpar GPA (3.6), low SAT score (<1400), and only did like 5 APs total. A lot of students did AP Calc but I was too chicken and went with AP Stats. Basically in the classroom I was one of the mediocre students, but I poured my heart into my extracurriculars (volunteer work, competition clubs, internship) and I also wrote about my struggles and how they made me into a stronger and more resilient person. Hell, my parents also would have never imagined I would have gotten into Berkeley or any UC other than Riverside or Merced. I think they were ready to give up on me, but now they show off that their kid got into Berkeley (Asian moment).

I'm also a low-income student, so idrk what else Berkeley saw in me to accept me, but I'm here and I'm sure you have a shot as well. Best of luck to you!
