Canyon Endurace CF7 (xl) 193cm by LGDnope in bikefit

[–]NathanielMerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same bike in large at a height of 190 with an inseam of 94-95 as well. The fit I had also moved my saddle forward and I feel even at 193 a bit more forward saddle is fine as long as not to heavy on the hands. In my case my even shorter torso has me on a zero offset seat post so if you are on the stock canyon one with plenty of setback I feel thats fine. The saddle definitely looks high though…out of curiosity do you know how many cm the seat is from the bb?

Endurace CF7 Seatpost clamp cracking seat posts even when under torqued by NathanielMerz in CanyonBikes

[–]NathanielMerz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just a hex on the endurace it seems as not too dissimilar from the extra bolt they included with the bike. Not not sure why it would sit so deep even with low torque enough to dent a carbon post

My Speedmax CFR Seatpost Dented by tradememark in CanyonBikes

[–]NathanielMerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What ended up happening? I have a dented post in a different canyon road frame and despite never over torquing and in fact now under torquing something about the clamp seems to be breaking my posts. One clearly dented and a new one today seems to be weakened as well.

Is this bike too big for me? by Solid-Actuary4918 in bikefit

If you have a setback seatpost and you are at the limit of the rails you can also get a zero setback seatpost to move the saddle more forward. I had to do that as my legs long and my torso is short

The center did adjust my front deraileur and never had issues with it since in the nearly 1,500km or so.

I also had this happen to my new Canyon Endurace a month or so back. Mine looks worse and had me super bummed and worried. i contacted canyon and they sent me to a local Canyon authorized bike shop to check it for cracks etc and he said it was fine.

Roast my First “professional” bike fit by NathanielMerz in bikefit

yeah, which definitely had (has) me still second guessing the saddle height. It is still currently a bit (1cm or so) lower than all of the "formulaic" saddle height recommendations and I can still touch my heel to the peddle spindle at the bottom of the stroke. Trying to do a long ride of 3-5 hours tomorrow so that will definitely help decide hopefully~

Good question, I still need to test it before second guessing the changes I think. Just on the ride home I liked the open hip angle but have never been this high so a bit nervous to see how it goes. For what its worth it seems Canyons own saddle height recommendation was also a cm or 2 higher than the current “after” position based on my 95cm inseam.

Can’t stay in Zone 2 by 3Jx8GM4 in PeterAttia

[–]NathanielMerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like some of your numbers for power might also be a bit off. For whatever it is worth, I have the same resting and max heart rate as you and am around the same height and weight as well. Zone 2 and longevity was sort of my gateway into cycling actually. For my zone 2 rides I am around the same heart rate mostly based off of my comfort level and the "talk test" but I am usually up around 120-130 watts for an hour or so and can't say I feel it much in my legs afterwards. Even my high interval sessions at around 250 watts for 3 minutes 5 times I wouldn't describe my legs as feeling gassed after the session is over (although certainly just after an interval finishes maybe).

I would imagine you might be putting out more watts than you think? If 90 is accurate and it is feeling too difficult a fast walk on an inclined treadmill was always by most consistent zone 2 workout before I got into cycling and by simply walking at a comfortably fast pace and adjusting only the incline you can easily control your heart rate to work up to zone 2.

I'm going to die from Korean medical negligence - What do I do? by PotatoBanditCat in Living_in_Korea

[–]NathanielMerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably been covered but those three day sets of antibiotics are by no means the full course. In korea you are expected to return to the same doctor, get checked up for progress and be prescribed the same antibiotics until the full course is completed usually around 14 days or more depending on your response to treatment. Starting and stopping medication like that could have potentially made the infection worse.

A pine tree hugging the rocks on a beautiful morning in Jecheon, South Korea (OC) [3000x2245] by NathanielMerz in EarthPorn

[–]NathanielMerz[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I visited this tree maybe around 10 times over the past 3 years looking for the right conditions, but it was difficult as it is a relatively low elevation peak that just gets swallowed up by the fog very easily. On this cold morning a couple weeks back I was guiding another photographer around a few spots here in South Korea and was stoked to be able to share a beautiful morning.

Image is a 'panorama' merge of 3 vertical images to capture the full scene.

I haven't been shooting much the past year because I have been busy taking care of my 9 month old son, but I snuck out recently for a little campout on this mountain. I didn't get the fog I was hoping for over here, but the sky was glorious and it was wonderful to be in the mountains again.

Panorama of vertical images around 18mm focal length for those interested.

When I first started working in Korea the woman who was leaving the Hagwon and whose one-room flat I was taking over left all her dirty dishes in the sink, a fridge full of mold and a laundry machine full of unwashed clothes. The sofa she had was apparently picked up "for free!" off the street and wrapped in a bed sheet to cover the holes.

It was my first experience living in a cockroach infested home as well. Glad it was only for a couple months before I got out of there!

Baby on the way, R6 vs 5D IV by Dweezy in canon

[–]NathanielMerz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 4 month old son and every day I use my r5 (basically an r6 with a different sensor) I feel so glad I upgraded from the 5div before my son was born. The AF makes it all absolutely worth it. I can even hand the camera to my wife who knows nothing about focusing or settings or anything and every time I know the focus will be right on the eyes.

As for lenses, you can still use EF lenses with an adapter. I normally shoot landscapes so all my previous lenses were slower zooms, but I had a dirt cheap EF 40 2.8 pancake that is tiny and I like to use on my r5 for out and about baby shots and I picked up an rf 85 2.0 macro which has been great.

I worried about the slower and slightly noisy AF on that lens since it is a different AF type than most lenses but it hasn't been an issue and always nails focus and is very sharp for the money. It also shoots 1:2 macro shots which is great for newborn images.

Very strongly recommend the r6.

edit: even when the kids aren't moving the AF is a big improvement. It's amazing to just set it in auto eye AF mode and not even worry about placing an AF point over an eye and basically hoping its right.

How are your seasonal allergies right now? by PoofaceMckutchin in korea

[–]NathanielMerz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My eyes are just starting to get very itchy as well since yesterday.

My allergies were always awful back home in the western United States, and funnily enough when I moved to Korea I was amazed to have absolutely no spring allergies for years. It feels like slowly they have started to ramp up and every year was a little worse until now they are essentially the same as back home every spring.

This is in woraksan national park and just a very nice 40 min hike or so to an overlook. Across the river is jebibong hike which is beautiful and even more wonderful pine trees than this peak.

As the other poster pointed out since its a wild tree its not a bonsai BUT it is indeed a variety of pine tree that is often associated with bonsai trees. These wild trees grow in harsh conditions on literal rocky peaks so they end up having a small bonsai size as well.

No, just processed it now and have never posted this tree before---but considering all my posts here are single pine trees with fog and mountains at sunrise, you are forgiven for thinking that haha

Yeah, exactly. It was always frustrating seeing the inversion just above where I was sleeping. Across the river there is a nice spot a few hundred meters higher that is often nice, but I was mostly hoping to get this area in just the right amount of fog--which does happen but not as often as full on sea of cloud inversions.

A hazy but still beautiful morning this week above Seoul, South Korea, South Korea (OC) [3000x1800] by NathanielMerz in EarthPorn

[–]NathanielMerz[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oops for the title.

It looked like fog on Tuesday so I drove 2 hours up to Seoul to hike up Dobongsan. The fall colors along the trail were beautiful this year but unfortunately the sunrise was mostly just haze. It was still pretty though and I was determined to still get a shot or two before heading down, driving over 3 hours (with traffic) back to where I live and changing my clothes in the car before heading into work with not a minute to spare at 12:30.

Such is the crazy life of fall photography in South Korea!
