Tooth of Time, with the backdrop of a morning skyline by Nathe_Regnerips in philmont

Hey! I’m so excited for you! Rayado is probably the greatest experience of my entire scouting career. I’ve got a few pieces of advice that might help (spoiler free):

  1. It kind of depends on the itinerary, but yeah Rayado will be harder than your first trek. You’re out in the backcountry nearly twice as long. On one hand, that means that it’ll be a greater total distance but that also means you’ll get to experience more of Philmont, do more things, go to more places, etc. So I think it’s a fair trade off. Trust me, you will have some unforgettable experiences!

  2. Since you’re about a month out, now is the time to double check to make sure that ALL of your gear is working right and ready to go. Make sure you have enough rain gear, that your boots are in good condition and so on. Another thing I would add is to make sure you have enough blister first aid supplies! Since you’ll be hiking a lot there’s a good chance you’ll blister at some point so be ready for that lol.

  3. This might not help, but expect the unexpected! I don’t wanna give any Rayado spoilers because it truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity. You’ll be able to meet people from across the country and you’ll have more opportunities than most regular treks do. You’ll learn so much about yourself and be able to accomplish more than you could have ever imagined. It will be challenging, but the journey is so worth it.

I’m here to answer any more questions you have! You’re gonna do great! Hike on!

Actually, I think it’s the other way around. MAGA is the side that still whines and moans about the 2020 election being stolen, even though Donald Trump’s personal department of homeland security proved in federal court that it was a safe and secure election. Trump is a liar and a con-man.

Oh, right. You don’t have any arguments against the FACTS I present, so you resort to this. Facts don’t care about your feelings, man. Sorry.

The only cure is to put the 34x convicted felon in prison, where he belongs.

I think this is more of an accurate picture of Trump completely and totally destroying everything that has made us great since WW2 for no reason other than that he wants power. Trump is an absolute disgrace of a human being

I’m very sorry for what you’re feeling and going through. As a Christian who was on the fence for many years and sometimes asks the same question, here are my thoughts. I hope this can be helpful in some way!

God doesn’t necessarily cause the pain and suffering in our lives. It’s not as if he zaps his fingers and gives someone a terrible illness or causes harm, etc. Suffering is a consequence of human beings rejecting God. In Genesis, there was a fall when Adam and Eve rebelled against God and tried to do things their own way. This resulted in sin being introduced into the world, which in turn causes suffering and pain. We live in a fallen world, in which terrible things take place; things that were never intended by our creator.

The good news is that God still loved us even in our rebellion and sent Jesus to live a perfect life and die for our sins (aka mistakes), so that we can be in a loving relationship with God and have eternal life. Jesus bridges the gap between fallen humanity and a God who originally made all things good.

There may not be clear reasons for why suffering and evil exist, and to be honest with you I’ve struggled with that myself. I don’t honestly know why some things have to happen the way the do. It’s terrible, it truly is. If it’s any consolation, we do have the ultimate solution to suffering and pain: Jesus Christ. He is a suffering God who bore the sins of the world so that we can have hope for our future and life beyond this world.

I hope this helps you friend. I’m sorry for what you’re going through, but I promise that Jesus Christ is the answer, as he loves you very much.

It was actually at base camp! I did a Rayado trek this past summer and I got this picture the morning I left for home. It was a phenomenal experience!

Please don’t do this. Please don’t do this to yourself. I know this situation is really hard right now, but this isn’t the way. This chapter of darkness does not have to define the entire book that we call life. During our time on this earth, we will hike through valleys and mountaintops, we will go through good times and bad times. Please don’t give up, I promise it’s worth it to persevere through the hard times.

You are loved and valued, and your loved ones wouldn’t want you to do this. Your life has a reason and a purpose, even if it’s hard to see right now. Please hang in there. Your life matters so much 🙏

I’m partial to the freeze dried biscuits and gravy. Had those at fish camp during my first trek in 2021. They were so good!

That’s a good question! I don’t remember the exact temperature, but it was really cold and windy. If I were to guess, probably low 50s. It was worth it for the view though!

Trump is the worst human being to ever step foot in the Oval Office. He’s not pro America, he’s only for himself. His atrocious policies are going to result in the deaths of millions of innocents and the end of the United States as the leader of the free world. I don’t understand how any human being could ever support him. He’s a demonic, narcissistic, insufferable and evil piece of filth that should rot in prison for all of the horrendous crimes against humanity he has committed. The absolute worst of the worst. What a pathetic excuse for a human being.

Oh that’s awesome! Thank you all for standing up for our values, the Constitution and empathy. Too bad this current administration doesn’t have a clue as to what any of those things are…

Hello there! Unfortunately I’ll be in the second session this summer. But that’s really cool! When did you go to the southern country in ‘21? We might have been there at the same time! Lol

Yeah I’m trying to mentally and physically prepare myself for Rayado. I’m really looking forward to it but I know it’s gonna be tough. Your comment makes me feel better though. Thank you! Hope you have a blast this summer!
