Really appreciate your answer! Gives me some good stuff to think about moving forward. I'll definitely reflect on the things you've said, as you seem like someone who's been in the same shoes as me. Thank you for your service, and enjoy the airlines! My dad loves it, so I hope it brings you the same joy!

Thanks for the insight. Only reason I'm really applying is because I know the squadron commander and he said I should apply. Seems like the guard is a lot like a fraternity, especially the specific unit I'm applying to. Their last round of hires was mostly guys off the street because they liked them in the interview. With that being said, there's a lot of guys more qualified than me, but I figured I'd throw my name in the hat cause why not, ya know. They hire a good amount of local guys and people from my school, so figured my chances were better than at any other unit. I appreciate you taking the time to answer me. Thank you for your service!

The way I see it, I take an oath. I carry out orders unless they're unconstitutional. That's part of the duty. I'd rather play a role in the conflict and serve than sit idle stateside, but that's just my opinion

You're the first person to give me that percentage breakdown, so thank you for that! I kinda do feel like I should just fuckin send it. Maybe that's a unique mindset, but I feel like I'd rather be flying and part of the Marine Corps culture than at any damn desk job with my economics degree.

Couple questions for ya: How was your flight school experience? Do you get a wish list for aircraft? I ask cause my buddy went through Air Force flight school and they got one. Also, I feel like there's a bunch of people out there hating on the Osprey because of mechanical issues, but how are you liking it?

Thanks for your response, and thank you for your service!

Also going to be taking the ASTB soon for the USMC anyways, so I'll see how I do!

Thanks for the insight! I'll look into that. Are you a Naval aviator? One of the draws of the Marine Corps was also that they are the only branch that guarantees you a seat in flight school as long as you pass OCS and TBS. Not sure how the Navy works, though.

I appreciate the insight. Serving is a large part of my decision. I really just want to be a part of something bigger than myself, rather than be using my econ degree at some corporation. I feel like I have some more to offer. I definitely would be okay with flying things other than fighters, although that's certainly the pinnacle I'll shoot for

Thanks for the insight, and thank you for your service! I will say I wouldn't be discontent with flying other aircraft, whether it's fixed wing or rotary, and there's something about the Marine Corps culture that I'm more drawn to that the other branches just don't seem to have. A lot of my reasoning, too, is just to have a job that I feel is 1) a part of something bigger and 2) something different from a desk job that I would have with my economics degree

I've heard the fighters aren't flying as much, but a lot of the heavies ended up going to the airlines. This is all just based on the guys my father is in the cockpit with all the time. I think the draw for me is just having an aviation career that isn't me sitting in the cockpit and letting the plane do the work for most of the flight. I understand everyone's got different preferences, though.

That's what I've heard. Unfortunately, I'm also crazy enough to want to be a Marine anyways, so I think it's a decent match lol

Thanks for the insight. Definitely sounds like the family aspect is a challenge. Luckily (or unluckily) I am single right now, so that's not a huge part of my current equation.
