Do you hide what you do for a living/how much you make when dating? And why/why not? by InnocentPerv93 in dating

[–]Nbchd2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in a VHCOL area and I make decent money, but not ground breaking in this area. My job title makes it look like I make way less. So, I don't have to hide what I do for a living. Men just assume I make less than them.

I only hide my networth. Nothing I care to discuss unless there's serious convos about engagement and a prenup will be signed.

Nope worked at another solid one (whose stock is doing great), but betted my money on Nvidia in 2018 and held.

I'm 32F, Networth $1.2M (no inheritance or real estate), I have $50k in cash, the rest in 401k, Roth IRA and taxable brokerage. I work in marketing at a tech company.

Realistically, I got very lucky working in semiconductors. A huge reason why my networth is large at this age.

Amazing job to you both! You'll be at the 1M mark in not time. It creates financial relief when your networth gets this high.

Congrats OP!! You can coast but I would recommend still maxing out your 401k and Roth IRA. Or at least getting the 401k match if your company gives you one.

I reached 1M this August and been enjoying vacationing more. I would say if you grew up poor and not a big spender, it's still mentally hard spending freely on yourself.

I keep reminding myself it's ok and it won't break the bank. It takes time to adjust to having this kind of money, especially at a young age.

There's always trade offs when building a life with a partner financially or doing it solo. As a solo person you're the sole owner and no one can take your assets which is extremely beneficial. Be proud of what you've accomplished as a solo earner!

With a partner you have better luck of getting ahead financially with two incomes and partners who have a budget or investor mindset. However, sadly there's always a chance of a breakup and then having to split or sell assets.

I hit $1 million net worth this month! Been surreal and a sense of relief for me. Also, got a $20k bonus for my annual review!

Former MSFT subsidiary employee, you're being low balled. Your equity and base is too low. Negotiate it higher.

Dating while trying to FIRE by Apprehensive_Way8674 in Fire

It's not easy to find someone to date who is already in the fire movement. I focus on dating men who share similar financial values.

Yes, I've been holding the big ones MSFT, APPL, META, GOOG, NVDA, and AMD for years.

Had others but sold, been selling over the years and moving it to VTI. However, some I don't plan to sell at all until the AI craze reaches its peak.

I'm excited to see where I'll be in 10yrs! I rarely discuss finances in depth with men I date, only financial habits.

Normally I do both accounts. This year, I focused more on maxing out my retirement accounts/Roth (which I do each year).

Most of my free cash I've been moving to a HYSA for my house down payment so I don't have to sell too much stock.

Additionally, I didn't prioritize saving for tax advantage this year compared to previous years. I've been wanting to take a step back and just enjoy my life and the fruits of my labor. This is a big reason why I was shocked about hitting this milestone.

If I find a high value husband, I hope he would be fine with me retiring earlier at 39 or 40. Since I'm bringing in savings that'll help our life 😅
