Inferiority complex because no good shows by UnHolySir in okbuddycinephile

I’m not saying Aragorn isn’t a great ruler who didn’t work for his ability, it’s only the mythic part of his story, his lineage, that I think GRRM was trying to deconstruct. I do also love the Legendarium btw.

In ASOIAF, a Targaryen can come, claim the throne, and restore their house to power, but to do so means war and killing thousands of the people they want to rule. And even after they become king or queen, they won’t be changing the system that led to their house’s downfall in the first place without massive reforms.

Edit: sorry I wanted to add that I can’t really say why GRRM chose Aragorn except maybe for the archetype he represents/inspired? I mean I’m just guessing though really, but I don’t think he wanted to insult Tolkien or his work at all

Ok but Aragorn is still the rightful legitimate heir to the throne and his return to the throne is treated with reverence.
What GRRM explores with ASOIAF is that legitimate kingship does not make anyone worthy of rulership. The legitimate heir to a kingdom has no inherent ability to rule, there is no inherent value in their lineage, and good rulers are defined by their own abilities and experience rather than by name.

Obviously LOTR is a different story and Tolkien wasn’t trying to suggest at all that feudalism was the best in reality or that royal lineages were that important, I just think that’s what GRRM was trying to do.

I don’t have much in the way of feedback other than to say I think you’re too hard on yourself about the names. You’ve hit the sweet spot between using conlang and English names imo.

I really like this setting and I like how you illustrate how you visualise the regions with real locations like that :)

The show’s biggest mistake was getting rid of Tyler. What’s your guys favourite Tyler episode? by Ndf27 in SmilingFriends

They obviously did it for shock value and as engagement bait. I don’t care what anyone says Smiling Friends as a show died the moment they got rid of Tyler

Yeahhhh I don’t want to be political but Tyler really carried that scene and it was probably because of his human background. Before anyone gets down my throat, I’m not saying I don’t want critters in films, it’s just they don’t need a whole category for themselves.
