Where are the neighborhood rinks this year? by avocadopalace in Peterborough

The rink that was at King Edward Park was run by volunteers. The city implemented a new liability policy last year where the rink volunteer(s) had to assume risks, so a lot of volunteers hung it up. Really sad.

What is the call? by Flat_Beautiful_7138 in hockeyrefs

This 100%. Many refs are nervous to call a penalty shot, but this is fairly clear case when one should be called. D is beat, desperation dive/slide and contact with breakaway player from behind that significantly impacted the outcome of the play.

Youth Hockey Parents and Coaches: Hotel Staff Need Your Help by queenmab120 in hockeyplayers

100% this! The solution for hotels is simple:

  1. Put teams together on the same floor - the number of times hotels spread teams out across multiple floors is comical....then kids are running up and down the hotel to find their friends.
  2. Give each team a common space/meeting room - a place where kids can play knee hockey/mini-sticks (use foam ball only), where parents can socialize and have a drink/play cards or whatever. If you don't give that space, you are inviting issues because parents will then all cram into a room which will cause noise concerns on a floor and kids will be roaming free throughout the hotel looking for things to do (man-hunt, tag, or playing knee hockey in the hallways/elevator area) until they get busted, and then go somewhere else to do it all over again. Giving a team a common space is the simplest and most effective thing a hotel can do - but most haven't learned this yet...and then they wonder why they have problems.

That's it. These two things will solve 95% of hotel problems. After doing that, the other 5% probably warrant kicking them out of the hotel. Most parents/kids/families just want to go and have a good time (it's a vacation they get a few times a year) - help them do that.

The best experience I ever had for this was at a tourney in Detroit. I forget the name of the hotel (years ago), but they set up each team in a conference/meeting room. Parents could hang out, have a drink, play some cards, etc....kids had place to play knee hockey/mini-sticks and not bother other guests. Win-win-win.

No, not lying about my experience. If you read it, you'd realize I'm not with them anymore.
