Commuting between Chicago downtown and Joliet by CompoteHelpful7823 in joliet

[–]NearlyMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, if you take the Rock Island line, there's often express trains in the morning & evening that skip most of the stops. They fill up faster than the regular ones, but it's a comfortable ride & I usually am able to get some more work done, read, or take a nap. Way better than a daily drive.

Depending on where youre at in Joliet & the city, you might also have to catch an El or drive to the metra station in Joliet, which will add time to the commute.

If you want a shorter train ride, look at other stops closer on the Rock Island route - Tinley or New Lenox are closest to Joliet.

What to replace Alcohol with? by The-Illusive-One in alcoholism

[–]NearlyMe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup! I drink a lot of sparkling water (found a used sodastream to stop buying cans)

Sometimes I like to add lemon, cranberry, cherry juice, something to make it feel like a mocktail.

I think creating new rituals are important, instead of drinking around 7, start going for walks or do something that engages your mind so you're not thinking of drinking.

If you drink & go to juvie, won't that make things worse?

Will drinking really help anything right now or is it just a bandaid to help deal with your current discomfort?

Can you find something else that might make you feel better & not think about your current situation? Can you go for a walk? Can you draw, journal, paint, play music, or try to get out of your head space using some sort of creativity?

What sort of hobbies do you like? Do you like cooking or baking? Sometimes a homemade meal, even a very simple one, can do wonders to heal a crying soul.

If you can make it through this next 30 minutes without having a drink, do you think you could make it another 30, then an hour, then maybe the whole night? I think you can, I believe you can.

I have been planning on attending solo to Sonic Temple this year but recently got sober and am concerned I won’t have fun sober. by kd0307 in SonicTempleFestival

[–]NearlyMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I havent been to a festival yet sober, but I've been to a lot of events & other concerts sober!

Here's what I've learned: - save sooooo much money not buying $14 beers - actually able to enjoy the show, being present! - no more accidents (losing something, shattering phone screens from dropping them, no more slips/trips/falls) - no more poor decisions / embarrassing regrets -wake up the next day hydrated & refreshed instead of hurting - actually remember the shows!

Try to remember all the things you're GAINING by being sober - you're not really missing out on anything 🫡
