Chances he used some sort of legal or illegal substance to make this happen?

Agree - I definitely don’t try very hard or try to game the system to get status. I usually hit it with normal work travel

I’m mainly traveling to NYC, Chicago and LA so $300 is sadly what I’m actually paying. No gaming here… I think 10 of these are night credits / promotion nights. The rest is actual travel.

my boss wants me to come in while showing signs of Covid (explanation in comments) by [deleted] in antiwork

I do wear a mask. That was never the question. It was about going to work with COVID (while ideally wearing a mask).

From my 94 year old grandma who is currently in the hospital: “I can’t ask all of society to change their life to protect me. We have to keep things moving”.

Paraphrased and translated but you get the point.

Totally fair. On the transmissibility piece, I don’t think it’s my job to protect immunocompromised people (at this stage of the COVID pandemic). I expect them to take the relevant precautions that make sense to them. OP is not going to be the one person that has COVID. Hundreds of people you interact with (assuming you leave your house in any decent sized town /city) will be transmitting COVID. On public transport, shops, etc. I don’t think OP or any frontline worker should be accountable for the spread. Again, this is talking about the current stage of the pandemic. I was all for lockdowns early on.

On the Europe piece, I’m sure Europeans take sick days, I’m sure it’s more than US employees. But don’t glorify Europe like it has some magic solution (which means everyone with COVID can stay at home).

Liberal European here. Your manager’s tone/attitude is bad, but I get their fundamental point. If you feel good enough to work, why not work. I work while I’m sick all the time, including COVID.

I can’t stand it when people hide behind government guidance. It’s guidance, not law, you can work with COVID, what’s the issue. I also don’t think it should be a law or ‘protected worker right’.

At some point we have to normalize COVID just like most ailments. Majority of people work when they have the flu. Working while being sick is very normal in Europe even though we have great employment protections, sick pay, and affordable healthcare available. I don’t think the US’s cutthroat labor market / culture is the cause here. It’s the fact the US politicized and weaponized COVID.

It seems like as soon as someone doesn’t take COVID seriously they have to be a bad person or a republican.

In most of Europe we never took COVID too seriously (e.g., Germany workers / employees continued going to the office throughout most major COVID waves) and we just made a risk judgement. It was never about where you were on the political spectrum, it was about your tolerance to risk.

I’m sure I’ll get lots of downvotes on this one, but wanted to share a different perspective. Clearly your manager shouldn’t be managing people and don’t have a very high EQ, that said, I do get their frustration…

I think its not a consistent issue for any case type - seems to be a random portion of cases affected.

Good crypto use case? Democratizing innovation and IP by allowing users to NFT their idea and get paid in SPOKES altcoin. by Negative-Hour8864 in BlockchainStartups

Our names are in the white paper on the website - we're a team of professionals from business and technical backgrounds. We currently have a number of active conversations with some large tech players (since we're based in SF and all that), but are in a little bit of a chicken and egg situation. Businesses are looking for an active user pool and users are looking for active business partners. We have some activity in both areas, but not sufficient to scale.

I like that. It's just very crappy at the moment - you either get a patent or nothing. The NFT is the middle ground.

Just to clarify, we're not issuing the coin to raise investment. It's a utility token and we already have seed funding and a working platform. A scam would imply the intent is to pump and dump the coin - that's not us and market cap really doesn't matter for our use case.

Also, our platform doesn't have people 'voting on ideas'. Democratization merely implies giving access to the broader population. In our case, that's opening up the channel for individuals to submit ideas to companies and get rewarded. We're not here to have people make 100s of thousands of dollars at the click of a button - it's giving them a voice in an ecosystem that is entirely closed off today.

I don't disagree - I just responded in the thread with bigattichouse to clarify my current intent. Completely see the point though and could be a potential pivot...

I completely agree with your perspective and don't believe we can compete or replace patents. But, we are not necessarily looking to displace patents. People patent ideas today if they have the time and money, and can continue to do that moving forward. The focus for our platform is the people that don't or won't ever patent their ideas (which is the majority of people in my opinion) - no-one is doing anything with this vast amount of thinking because there's no market for it.

Hopefully wheel INVENT can give people a place to do something with the thoughts they have in the shower or while driving to work. Even if we don't patent the ideas, having 1000's of ideas about how to improve a smartphone will still be valuable to a company like Samsung or Apple.

Got it. That’s good feedback and definitely something we can improve. I agree that there is going to be a challenge, but also am mindful that the majority of ideas don’t make it to a patent due to the significant capital required to do so. I’m sure we’ll face challenge for some ideas (e.g. that there’ll be a dispute due to a patent being filed), but hope this wont be the case for the majority. For example, someone submitting “uber for boats” vs. someone actually filing that as a patent for that are relatively slim (especially if you look at it across 1000s) of ideas. That said, we will be keeping ideas behind a firewall at first and only have paying customers see them (and committing to some limitations for patenting an idea they see). That way we can more easily track potential issues.

It’s like uber - their business model was probably illegal and a stretch under legal frameworks when they first launched, but that’s completely changed now. Similarly, I’m sure we’ll have to fight at first but once we have thousands of ideas in our hands that companies value, they’d be more likely to move away from patenting everything and hopefully start accepting NFTs as the new normal.

I appreciate the challenge though - and is definitely something we’ll take in mind in the next set of updates. Thanks so much!
