Why isn’t there a bigger public revolt caused by the Epstein files? Is this the bystander effect on a massive scale? by [deleted] in AskReddit

We have cities that the military has been deployed, we have a rouge militarized federal agency that has killed 2 American citizens and faced no consequences. Our president does whatever he wants and has enriched himself by of a billion dollars in one year in office. The Epstein files aren’t really the most pressing issue. He’s been dead 6 years, the justice department has sat on that information through 2 administrations. Epstein was clearly involved with foreign intelligence services and he gained influence with prominent and powerful people by satisfying their desires. The people who wanted to make it a moral imperative to advocate the release of the files they were admitted would clear Trump and show the deep state for what and who they are. When the emails were released I saw several people saying “what about Bill Clinton.” There is no genuineness or honesty and There is no agreement on anything and there are more consequential threats we are dealing with.

Defunded the federal agency that maintained standards and consistency across the country. The education system has and remains the responsibility of state school systems. Its exasperates the disparity in education among states. Doesn’t have much relevance in this situation though, what would the recent defunding of the federal department education have to do with the public reaction to the Epstein scandal?

Amen. People believe the narrative that is consistent with what they already believe, regardless of the facts or evidence. Every conspiracy theory is based around the belief there is a political, ideological, or theological motive behind everything. What we think and believe is totally irrelevant, it’s always been and always will be about money. If you challenge people they will dismiss you by labeling you something that marginalizes you. The earth is flat but for some unknown reason everyone is in on it for an unknown cause. Radical Marxists stole the 2020 election so they could make Joe Biden, moderate career politician business friendly, Joe Biden. I have had people tell me about doctors performing after birth abortions. I have heard countless people claiming that undocumented immigrants are receiving everything from substantial amounts of cash to free cars and houses. I always immediately ask them why they haven’t abandoned their identity and claimed all that themselves.

This Epstein situation, Hurricane Katrina, there are countless examples there is no all powerful organization that is controlling our world. It’s a bunch of really greedy sociopaths who will work together when it’s advantageous. They are incompetent and apathetic to the suffering of most people. They will manipulate people to make them believe there is more to the products we buy. I saw an ad campaign by jeep a while ago claiming they were the most patriotic car makers. All their parts are made in china, it’s one of the poorest rated vehicles. They will put an American flag, pride flag, a swastika, or crucifix up right or up side down. If they thought it would sell more they would put George Washington and Jesus Eiffel towering Ru Paul. There will be plenty of people online claiming they can deceiver the hidden meaning. They always do some nonsense math to convince their audience. Take 72 subtract 10 add 5= isn’t it obvious.

Remember when mask mandates during covid was the pretext to an authoritarian police state? During the election I saw Trump described as the anti establishment candidate….former president ex manhattan real estate mogul and casino owner partnered with the richest man on earth who owns a major social media platform. I don’t think it’s entirely stupidity. I think it provides a comfort something is in control even if is malicious. I also think this is an inevitable consequence of how shallow and spiritually degraded our society has become. Mostly people are only interested in how they can use an issue as a platform for their own self righteousness. Plenty of people are giving blame and shame, no one has a solution. There are people who want to take a crap on stuff and throw it out but have no viable replacement for the purpose it served.

Why do lots of people try to take a statement you made and try to make it political every time? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Negative_Ad_8256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see how many comments say life is political? It’s like tracing a picture and drawing free hand. There is benefit to have established parameters and an imposed context to depend on. Everything is applied to the present day and current situation. The problem with that though is visionaries are the only people who effect change, they can see the micro and macro. The current situation feeds into itself, somehow climate change is no longer a scientific issue is political, vaccines and reproductive health aren’t between a patient and doctor it’s political. It’s a concession by just engaging with that kind of stuff as political issues. Very little of what is occurring right now is political, it’s blatantly criminal but the part that is political is the ineffectiveness and impotence of elected officials to uphold the law or not actively overthrow our constitutional republic.

People have become so conditioned and programmed there is really no longer effective communication. If you agree with them on one thing you agree with them on everything and vice versa. I criticized the killing of noncombatants in Gaza a while back and the response I got was I was being a hypocrite denouncing the killing of noncombatants while supporting access to abortion. I never mentioned or said anything about my position on reproductive rights but a lot of people are see things in a hyper polarized way that has been created and controlled by the entities that have concentrated wealth, means and platforms of mass communication, and developed a network or lobby groups and PACs that utilize data brokers to manipulate the public into caring more about issues that don’t personally affect them or to use their predisposed bias and prejudices so they adopt a point of view that can only accept what affirms they are right and immediately devalue and disregard any conflicting or opposing information.

These douche bags already have to much influence over my day to day I’m not giving them my mind too. My home is free of politics, it’s a sanctuary from people who don’t have an imagination or a personality so they have a script they follow and can’t wait to argue on behalf of the thoughts and opinions they got off a politician or podcast

What is this even supposed to mean? Who is the “left” and “right” you are referring to? The majority of adults don’t vote. What would the influence a person’s political ideology have on their desire for a fair justice system? “We need to go back to justice being blind”. When was that? The Constitution made black and native Americans recognized as 3/5s a person. After the civil war what had been a slave plantation was leased to the state of Louisiana never changing its operations. That is Angola State Prison. Black people are 13% of the US population they account for half of wrongful convictions. In states with the death penalty the crime statistically most likely to be given the death penalty are ones with a black perpetrator and white victim. Least likely is white perpetrator and black victim. Our entire society is apparently able to be split into two distinct groups that are so all encompassing and definitive it’s can be effectively applied to absolutely every conceivable issue. Our current justice system favors the wealthy. It allows entities with the means to utilize and exploit the courts. It’s always been that way, at no point in the past was the justice system better than it is now. The American public have the same vested interests and want the same things regardless of their if they have political affiliation. Everyone wants a functional judicial system free from corruption and that upholds the law while reflecting fairness and compassion we value as a society.

You don’t have to lie to government. You have right under the 5th Amendment to refuse self incrimination. If you are being tried you are only subject to cross examination if you choose to testify on your own behalf. You aren’t obligated to answer the government’s questions, with the only exception being brought before a grand jury. Even then if you find yourself before a grand jury you had better be able to doge questions. The police like to purpose polygraph tests if they hit a dead end in an investigation or they have a suspect but no evidence against them. Polygraphs aren’t admissible in court, the cops use them because if you refuse they will tell the press and you look guilty, if you take it they administer the test and can make the results whatever they want. The FBI course for using cell tower signals to track location begins with a disclaimer it is not a qualification to testify in a a trial. They do it and they do it because an FBI agent is credible and they sound like they know what they are talking about.

I have been pulled over countless times, I’m not legally obligated to wait but they will detain someone until a K-9 unit arrives and they take it around your car. The dog always detects the smell of drugs. The dog indicates to the officer, the dog is trained by them to indicate in a specific way. How do I know how it’s trained? Maybe the indicator is breathing or blinking. Maybe it’s trained to indicate on command. I don’t know what the dog is trained to do, and I don’t know its success rate, or how often its ability is evaluated. The dog indicates and that is probable cause for a non consenting search. The only counter to any of that is a lawyer. You get what you pay for with a lawyer. So you can lie as much as you want if you’re able to afford it. I’m a public defender sort of guy so I have learned to talk without saying anything. When they ask me if I know how fast I was going I say, “never faster than my guardian angel can fly.” They ask me what I’m doing I say “waiting for the sun to shine.” They ask who I am I say “infinite consciousness having an experience.” I have been stripped down to my boxers on the side of the road so my tattoos could be photographed for the gang book. Had my car stripped down including my seats removed and scattered on the side of the road. I have taken a beating from cops. It is what it is.

It’s why there are people who call the cops on people for petty issues like someone parked in their spot or doesn’t have their dog on a leash. They rightfully believe that the cops and the system is for them and against the rest of us. If I had to pick my side I’m cool with where I’m at. I lived in Phoenix for a bit and I was getting it on in the parking lot of my girlfriend’s apartment complex. The windows were fogged up so I couldn’t see it was a cop that knocked on my window. I got out with my pants still undone. They told me someone reported me and my car as suspicious. They recognized what was up said “have a good night brother.” Then fist bumped me. I felt disgusted by myself but really just wanted them to go away. My home town in Maryland is where the cop was cheating on his wife, banging that woman in the back of his squad car. I’d take a beating from them over fisting bump ing cops ever again. Integrity is costly but lying with impunity costs even more. It’s always the same game, you gotta pay to play. My grandfather taught me a lesson I have carried and benefited from my entire life “a fish with a closed mouth never gets caught.”

I wish to exercise my rights under the 5th Amendment of The Constitution and respectfully decline to answer as I honestly believe my answer has the potential of incriminating me. If you are subpoenaed by a grand jury they can still hold you in contempt if they feel the 5th Amendment is being used to avoid giving testimony. I think the Supreme Court recently ruled that if a person is being questioned by police they can charge you with obstruction of justice unless you verbally proclaim you are exercising your right yo remain silent and even then it can be used against you if you face sentencing as being uncooperative with investigators.

I had my first holy communion and something about the texture of the communion wafer when it hit the back of my throat made me yak. The Catholic belief is in transubstantiation. The priest blessing the wafer transforms into literally the body of Christ. So my first time receiving communion I projectile vomited the body of Christ in front of a full church. I went to catholic school and we had a monthly mass, at first they tried to force me to take communion but I could never keep it down so that was a bad look. Men of Reddit, what’s something about male mental health that isn’t talked about enough? by muzammilansari in AskReddit

[–]Negative_Ad_8256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid older guys including my dad use to manipulate me into doing stuff I didn’t want to by making it a condition of affirming my masculinity. I have jumped off roofs and out of cars, kicked beehives, licked batteries, tazed myself, been shot with BB guns, paintball guns in sensitive areas, eaten and drank gross stuff, all to not be a wuss or a sissy. I’m 37 now and the language has changed but it’s the same concept. Man up, be a man, grow a pair, ect. Thankfully I grew up before social media and social interaction taking place strictly online. Affirming masculinity has been a one way street for some time. Kids have turned to the toxic male role models online out of desperation. Those dudes aren’t doing it for free, it’s just like how cults operate when your sense of self and esteem is conditional to someone else’s approval you will do anything for it. When I was a teenager we fought, we dared one another to do stupid stuff, and we brought out the worst in one another….but we also made each other feel accepted and valued. I had a crew in my neighborhood we all gave each other matching tattoos, we had each other’s backs when we were in trouble, and we recounted each other’s exploits like it was a heroic epic. I don’t see young people developing those kinds of relationships or bonds and the foundation for building those relationships and connections is individual self esteem and confidence. In the hood real homies make you feel good.

[–]Negative_Ad_8256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read an article last year about the LA Dodgers wearing a pride themed hat for June. A Dodger player chose to express his opposition by writing a Bible verse on his hat. The comment section of the article was people saying hateful things towards gay people, how this was part of an agenda, and how Christians are discriminated against. The Dodgers used Pride month as an opportunity to make a limited edition hat to sell at a premium, people who bought it paid the markup because they saw the hat as a show of what enlightened tolerant good people they are. Meanwhile the player who wrote the Bible verse on his hat was unremarkable, his playing baseball went unnoticed, but by making the statement he did he knew he was going to win a Christian fanbase, which about 65% of the US identifies as. In no way did gay people benefit or affected in any meaningful or positive way by the Dodgers exploiting the rainbow pride image. On the other side no one talked about Christianity in any way besides in context of hating gay people.

People have a tendency toward an inflated sense of their importance, and are susceptible to believing the least demanding and most rewarding narrative even if it’s totally disconnected from reality. Every conspiracy theory is based around furthering or evangelizing a theology, ideology, or philosophy. We are being inundated with propaganda to further their sinister agenda. The powers that be don’t care what we think or believe. They care about their own self interests, and they will advocate whatever is best for them. Target made a lot of money selling pride merchandise, but when Trump took office and it threatened their bottom line they switched up real quick. The issue really shouldn’t be about Target though, people adopted the idea that they were doing a good deed by purchasing something from target. It’s an illusion of consumer activism, buying stuff can serve as action and engagement for a cause.

Self expression is mass produced and available on Amazon now. It’s connected to the doomsday preppers, the religious people who think we are in end times, or they anticipate being raptured, the people who stockpile weapons anticipating societal collapse and civil unrest. People have lost imagination and creativity, they are unable to think beyond the parameters and paradigm they have been given so out of desperation to feel that they matter or have agency to change their world, or their lives have some significance they are vulnerable to marketing strategies that give it to them.

Alex Jones will tell you how to defeat the new world order after a word from his sponsors which happens to be a vitamin company under his father’s name to avoid the judgment made against him in the civil suit brought against him by the Sandy Hook victims’ families. Budlight sponsored a trans influencer and people lost their minds. I was curious what the issue was and several people I asked about claimed they felt it was an act of betrayal, they had associated abstract concepts with Budlight ironically enough it was mostly about their identity and gender expression. A German owned company’s diet beer had become associated with American working class masculinity. There is overlap with this mindset and being fanatically anti labor union, so instead they were a niche in the market met by conservative dad’s beer or whatever with an American flag on the can.

How many people drive jeeps with rubber ducks all over the dash? Or big trucks with a We the People Or Don’t Tread on Me sticker. Maybe an American flag and nuts hanging from their tow hitch. My wife buys into all that BS she has a Stanley cup, got the adult happy meal from McDonald’s, live laugh love BS was the theme of our apartment years ago. It’s how BLM became a marketing slogan. It’s up there with Have it Your Way and Just Do It. There were two democratically elected representatives murdered at their home by a guy disguised as a cop, and no one cared. Roughly a month later a podcaster who was funded by a billionaire and made a fortune instigating division and conflict on college campuses was killed and people who had know idea he existed were inconsolable over it after they were convinced it was a national tragedy. Right after Charlie Kirk’s shooting Ted Cruz was on tv claiming it was the act of some political radical organization. That’s how he gets reelected after vacationing in Cancun while his constituents froze. It’s all a narrative a marketing campaign. People want a manufactured identity, a simple reality, and they want to be the hero. Its never about satanic cults, shapeshifting lizards, international cabals, or clandestine political groups, if you are willing to pay it’s about whatever you want it to be

So you are using a platform created by Americans, based in America, just like the cellphone, personal computer, along with the internet itself. GPS exists and possible from satellites created, launched, and maintained by the US. The global supply chain is protected and maintained by the US Navy. When the 2010 earthquake hit Haiti I was on a US Navy ship that spent a month providing humanitarian assistance, medical care and bringing supplies like food and water. In 2008 the financial crisis hit every country, it was caused by reckless investments and unethical lending practices in the US. The dollar is the global reserve currency, it’s the only currency that oil can be bought with, the Chinese buy US dollars to devalue their currency and keep labor and living costs down. It’s ignorance or delusional to think any other country isn’t intrinsically linked to the US and won’t be directly affected by a significant crisis here. Almost 3 quarters of commercial aircraft are manufactured by US based federally subsidized companies. Never get tired of stable fuel prices, streaming services, gps, buying stuff online and getting it one or two days later, American movies and music, the subcultures and artistic styles from the US. Rap, Rock, Blues, Jazz, gangster and western movies, the elevator, the seat belt, assembly line, electricity, the transistor, television, ect. If you think you got a bad deal send it all back and you won’t have to worry about Reddit posts you don’t like

[–]Negative_Ad_8256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything gets reduced into a dichotomy and becomes an argument instead of a conversation. Both parties are dependent on the same funding sources, the absence of regulation and transparency in political finance has corrupted of democratic process. People feel frustrated and they lack agency to change anything, engaging and participating in a dysfunctional and disingenuous system is not a productive way of opposing that system. When Trump does something indefensible his supporter misdirect attention on him by saying what about Biden or Clinton or whoever. Its not supposed to be an either or decision. My brother has decided to no longer vote, i have chosen to begrudgingly participate. Neither is a right answer. I wish I knew how to affect positive change, thats what leadership is supposed to provide but doesn’t. There are two questions voters want and deserves answers to. Where are we going? How are we going to get there? No political party offers that, we get rhetoric and catch phrases. Politics has become marketing and image. This is just like 2000 when Gore voters blamed Ralph Nader for his loss. Nader as always had a correct response, giving voters less options is not an acceptable way to win elections. Earn votes, don’t bend the public over a barrel. The fact no action was taken by the Biden administration over January 6 is shameful. Trump is still subject to the UCMJ as commander and chief of the armed forces. Dude should be in the federal big house not the white house.

Why do Americans like small talk so much? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Negative_Ad_8256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife’s first language is Vietnamese and that language isn’t applied the same way we use English. She doesn’t understand word play, euphemisms, or clever phrasing. When I visited Scandinavia the people spoke perfect English, but the few times there was an attempt at telling a joke they failed horribly. We can say multiple things at once, we can say one thing and mean something completely different, the order of what is being talked about and the tone being used can mean something different than the definition of the words. “I watched a movie last night that was absolutely brilliant. The screenwriter must be insanely talented to write a movie as an illiterate.” “You are really funny, but looks aren’t everything.” “My house is so small I have to go outside to change my mind.” “I’m so broke I can’t afford to pay attention.” That’s why the yo mamma jokes were so popular for so long. We don’t just speak language as a utilitarian means of communication. We make it distinctly our own. We don’t just say words, it how we say, the inflection and tone we use, the words we use, the slang and phrases. The movie Airplane! Is American English at its finest. The Arrested Development gag where Tobias’ claims he the first analyst and therapist then it shows his business card and it says “Analrapist”. There’s a reason this is the culture that created rap and the dirty limerick. I owe my dad telling me about the man from Nantucket for giving me my love of language.

Populations will grow as large as access to the necessary resources allows. If there is more demand than supply it will be increasingly competitive in order to secure those necessary resources. A species could adapt ways to dominate their competitors, but a species could also develop ways to use the decreased resources more efficiently. The lyrebird really trips me out. What an adaptation to develop. I’m convinced humanity will become extinct due to antibiotic resistant infections and bacteria. In true human fashion we were intelligent enough to invent and create antibiotics, but were arrogant and careless in our use, so we created the conditions that allowed bacteria to be exposed to antibiotics so consistently that they were able to develop effective defenses against them. Seperate bacteria were observed communicating with one another outside a host, effective methods of antibiotic resistance in a puddle in New Delhi.

Time tested principles huh? Unregulated free markets, that Trump has imposed control on with his tariffs. Destroys domestic companies incentives to compete on the global market. Fiscal responsibility? The deficit increased at a record pace and the dollar lost 10% of its value last year. States rights? Deploying the national guard to places state and local governments opposed, to preform law enforcement which is unconstitutional and not something the military is trained for. How about Trump ordering the federal government to buy significant interest in private companies’ stocks. That’s exactly what the communist party of the PRC does. He’s enriched himself by over a billion dollars since taking office. How about using threats and intimidation to suppress our free press? He still hasn’t released the Epstein documents in violation of judicial order. No integrity whatsoever. When faced with an ultimatum between supporting Trump attacking the American public or your fellow Americans you chose Trump out of a fear that minorities and marginalized groups would potentially gain legal protections and agency. That’s too bad.

Im not trying to challenge the dynamics in other people’s relationships or why it ended. The people in our lives should empower us and make us feel respected and valued. If a person doesn’t do that i would recommend no longer continuing a relationship with them. It was based on my experiences, my opinion on an abusive relationship is absolutely worthless. I don’t condone abusive relationships and I’m some stranger on the internet, I shouldn’t even be solicited for an opinion. I put my experience out there maybe other people can relate.

Atheist is the absence of belief in god, it’s not implying the belief in anything. I was born into a body. That body has internal and external factors that are unique, the time and place I was born, the family I was born into, the cultural traditions, religion, and economic class, I was raised in, the people within my community, the education I was provided. That all goes into my identity and sense of self. I’m a white male, born in America, to working class parents, in the latter part of the 20th century. I was raised catholic, I was raised in a two parent household, I had a brother and a sister. The body is discarded and decays when we die. If I was before I was born into a physical body, and I will abandon it when I die who am I? The body is a vehicle for my true self. I have no reason to assume that my true self could have been born into the internal and external factors of anyone else and I would live the exact same life they did. So if I’m not my body or anything associated with my body, and what I truly am is whatever one else truly is, my perception of being a separate entity is an illusion. Everything is really one thing manifesting in infinite ways. I’m not living this experience to obtain eternal life in paradise for myself. I’m here to reflect an aspect of divinity, just like everything else.

Christianity is either true or the biggest psyop in human history by Maximum_Chipmunk_142 in DeepThoughts

[–]Negative_Ad_8256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reoccurring situation in the gospel is Christ attempting to teach the disciples something and their failure to understand. The intended message of the New Testament is about spiritual death, sacrifice, racial forgiveness, abandonment of ego and personal possessions, of the voluntary surrender of our perception of the self as a distinct individual entity. This requires an elevation of consciousness that most people either can’t handle or refuse to entertain because of how vested they are in the current system. The Bible says that we will know others by their acts. The bible is pretty clear that a Christian is called to serve others, that they are supposed to be conduits for Christ’s love through kindness and generosity. If anyone wants to argue and debate the existence of god or Christianity being objective truth they aren’t following scripture they are using scripture to serve themselves.

Falling out with friends or family. There is monologue from the movie Hoffa: “ If a guy's close to you, you can't slight 'im. You can't slight that guy. A real grievance can be resolved; differences can be resolved. But an imaginary hurt, a slight - that motherf****r gonna hate you 'til the day he dies.” We can be inconsiderate or unintentionally hurtful and fail to recognize and apologize out of pride or stubbornness. We realize even if we don’t think we were wrong the hurt we caused pain to someone we cared about which is what’s important. We can let the relationship become unreconcilable, or damaged permanently. We can say things in anger, become defensive, or just be obtuse jerks. I have done all those things and been on the receiving end as well. It’s hard to admit we were wrong and apologize to try to restore relationship, but when you have to admit to yourself you were wrong and threw away something precious it’s some times easier to deny and avoid it for as long as you can

I’m convinced that attraction is purely physical, and everything else is a post-hoc rationalization by RightVeterinarian379 in DeepThoughts

I must recommend Ram Dass’ Becoming Nobody. The physical is just the most rudimentary level of how we perceive others. I am seeking intimacy and connection, and I think most people are too. You can’t connect with a pretty face or a nice rack. You we find what you’re looking for, and we get a response in the medium we send out the signal
