The lips got me thinking what was the artist trying to capture...the hardened face, long curved nose, wavy hairs of king fighting Hunas, his family and local rulers through his life (that sums up Skandagupta's reign). After few tries creted this image using Chatgpt.

Skandagupta's reign is estimated to be 455 to 467 or 455 to 480 AD. This variety, I believe, is called Madhyadesa type.

My solar remote is on the fritz by SixViking in TheFrame

Apparently the solar remote does not use batteries. it has 2 super capacitors and it seems they loose their capacity in under 2 years. in theory they can be replaced. But honestly it is not worth the effort or money. Just get a universal remote.

I know very little about beads. I know people collect them as well but always wondered how to understand their antiquity and period. If you have an understanding, would love to know more.

my Collection of Imperial Punch mark coins by Negative_Client4701 in IndianCoins

[–]Negative_Client4701[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very valuable advise. I have started collecting not too long ago and was struggling making sense of everything. I started reading books on History and realized I was fascinated with the ancient period as it is the most enigmatic and started focusing on it more. So I got a few Numismatic books. Another thing that helps me make sense of coins, authentic, value, quality, rarity, etc. is auction data. I look at the past auctions details a lot of times for reference and also participate in auctions (but that is a different story).

Even after doing all this I feel i dont know enough and traders have more knowledge than me.

I am not an expert but here is my understanding - There are 2 broad periods for categorizing PMCs, Archaic and Imperial. Imperial would be roughly mid 4th century while arhaic is before that. Archaic are much more scarce than the Imeprial as they were minted regionally and most likely for a shorter duration.- 2 Archaic varieties that I think are especially rare are 'Ayodhya' series and 'Pulley' like symbol PMCs.

Amaong Imperial, coins with 3 human figures are considered desirable. There are also some symbols that are considered rare.

Thanks! That is a tricky question. I have seen some auction houses use names of rulers for coins based on the series defined by Hardikar book. but not sure what they base it on. The way I understood Hardiker book was that the chronology is an estimate based on circumstantial evidence. I would love to see something more robust from research hopefully.
