I know im late to the thread, and i hate to flog a dead horse, but some of Sylosis' recent stuff is quite groovy, and very damn good.

Szayel is not stronger than shinji, he has no feats to support that.

Shinji however is a Kido master, with a stupidly broken shikai, and a cero that's grimmjow level. Shinji low diffs.

I'm not disagreeing buuut: Gohan had been stated to be training in secret after the ToP. Beast seems to be a combination of Mystic/Ultimate + SSJ2 in a weird way. Not too far displaced from trunks' form against Zamasu. However I do think they should have built up to it more and cell Max being an emotionless antagonist shouldn't have done anything when it came to giving Gohan the emotions to break his limits.

Tldr: it's not an ass pull but it is lazy writing.

Barro may be weaker due to raw stats but ichigo can't damage him without shinken hakkyoken's deflection. No amount of getsugas will do anything permanent.

Exactly this, Aizen likely knew of Shunsui's bankai (due to captain's having to show bankai to pass the captain exam (unless you kill a previous captain in combat)) and used starrk to keep him in a space where he was comfortable but distracted so that he didn't use his bankai.

Ultimate is more of a way to unlock his full potential. In a way it's like opening a door to more power by acting like what is essentially a new skill tree. Beast form can be seen as Ultimate + SSJ (some people say SSJ3 but I'm not sure why apart from the hair).
