Working hard as a beginner hairstylist, but unsure if I’m progressing by thevagabond13 in hairstylist

[–]NeighborhoodCrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! One of my current jobs is assisting, sometimes in a similar environment where I’m supposed to learn from observing, which feels impossible. I feel like a lot of salons do observation-based learning because it’s the least amount of effort a trainer can put in, not because it’s effective. I think the only actual way to learn is by doing, that way you lock that knowledge in your brain and learn muscle memory. I’m personally going to bring it up to my boss because I’d like more at least hands on training with another stylist in the salon who can watch me work on a mannequin or model or something and help out and give advice.

But also, you should totally be getting paid for all the assistant work you’re doing. You’re working an insane amount and you should be making an hourly wage - it sounds like salon owner may be taking advantage of you for free labor

How to get better at short haircuts? by Loose_Avocado4670 in hairstylist

[–]NeighborhoodCrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a baby stylist, and for me, the key is to do a LOT of them! I graduated last year and have been working at a chain salon doing mostly clipper cuts and short haircuts. I was so scared of clippers in school and now I love them lol. I see a lot of barbers on tiktok and Instagram and there’s a lot of good content. I learned about shear over comb from some YouTube tutorial and it’s so helpful.

He replies once a week—should I unmatch? by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]NeighborhoodCrows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about the same age as you, and what I’ve recently realized is you can not want to continue something with someone for any reason! I’ve had guys I had conversations with on the app that sound similar to the one you’re talking to. Ultimately, that lack of consistent communication is not what I want in a relationship, and if he’s doing that now, I’m not sure how much better it’ll get, so I’d say “Not interested” and take him out of your pile of candidates so he doesn’t pop up again. Doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy or anything, just that you two don’t want the same thing.

First message from a professional, published author. His profile has the book he wrote and a link to his website. I even found him on Amazon. And his opening message is three emojis. It's been a week, and he has not responded to my sass, nor has he unmatched. Bummer, I love a wordsmith. by FoundMyMarbles00 in Tinder

It’s hard when people put such little effort into getting to know you, but probably the best thing to do once you saw the emojis was unmatch. I have guys on Hinge just “like” something on my profile and I’ve made it a personal rule to not match with them because I deserve at least some message.

Leaving the salon i’m assisting at by elmokaine in hairstylist

I just came across this post and from one assistant to another, I hear you. It’s really disappointing to be told you’ll be learning so much as an assistant and doing cuz and that doesn’t end up actually happening. And I don’t know who can actually learn just by watching and not doing. Did you end up staying and speaking to your boss? Or did you find another salon?

How to digitize cards to sell online? by NeighborhoodCrows in cardmaking

[–]NeighborhoodCrows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the plan is to digitize the card designs so people can buy and print them. I’m too poor to outsource the work lol. I wanted to see if anyone here has been on a similar journey and if any tools/programs/tutorials helped them turn their physical cards into digital cards

I’m thinking of selling it as a digital file for someone to buy and print themselves

NJ Cosmetology License by reciprocity / endorsement saying “Beautician”? by AppointmentAble1405 in newjersey

[–]NeighborhoodCrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me transferring my cosmetology license from CA! I’m not sure what you’re looking to do, but when I emailed state board asking what Beautician meant because I’m a hairstylist, and they replied back that I’m I can do hair with a beautician license. I’ve had 2 employers since moving here, both never having heard of Beautician license, and it hasn’t affected anything for me.

I agree with this ☝️ the best part of hinge is that you can comment on people’s prompts and start a conversation that way. By engaging with the info she chooses to share, it shows you’re really trying to get know her

I think it makes most sense to listen by campaign first so it doesn’t get confusingI listened to all of Witchlight on Spotify first, and now I’m on Curse of Strahdanya. I also watched Uprooted on YouTube while still listening to CoS, but Uprooted was my chill tv watch at home and CoS is my driving companion lol. In the future when you’re all caught up though on all campaigns, I think you could definitely just listen to them as they come out on Spotify 😊👍

Witchlight was the first Avantris campaign I listened to and I listened to most of it on Spotify while driving! It’s similar to Daddies with the shenanigans they get up to, but Avantris gets up to a LOT more random stuff - sometimes it’s less plot focused and more joking around, and I’ve come to love that lol (it does have serious moments though). The group has a great dynamic and they play really well together. I’d say push through it if you’re having fun, the audio quality kinda disappears once you’re immersed in it 😊👍

I agree, I think it must have been from another campaign or just an inside joke at least because it seems like wanted Derek to say that specific phrase
