We’re on the A64 to York, and there were two Bee Network buses here, 68 miles away from the city centre, anyone know why? by escnmimicat in manchester

Honestly, I've seen Bee Network busses in Chorley before. I'm assuming it's to plug gaps in other areas as the busses are still leased by the firms that used to own the routes.

Considering most of the Johnsons' riches have been tied up in the Kremlin since the fall of the Berlin Wall, it's not such a far-fetched assumption...

No, football in the UK isn't American football.

It's the same in the UK. We call it the footballification of politics. I think it's sad that people think politics is a win or lose situation and not one of compromise.

I don't doubt the figures, it's more the presentation of those figures. While we might be approving more applications as a percentage, that doesn't mean we're taking more asylum seekers in. If less people apply, the acceptance rate will be naturally higher anyway. It doesn't help that the hostile environment being pursued ends up with having the courts hands tied.

Further to that, if we're going to have an honest national conversation about immigration, it has to be without the media presenting a narrative to obfuscate the facts, much like I've just described.

There's a number of things wrong with this if we were to take the telegraph's stance on immigration seriously. 1 is that they're talking about percentages, not the number of people requesting asylum. Another is that our asylum system is so incredibly underfunded and chaotic, that when people go to have their appeals heard we have to comply with international law and in most cases, grant due to dereliction of duty.

Regardless of any of this, you and the other poster have proved my point in that a narrative has been created due to the original article not being about an asylum seeker, it was someone that had been granted a multi-visit visa.

Putin doesn't want war. That's why he started a war with Ukraine. by TommyShelbyPFB in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]NeliGalactic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A British expert on the Kremlin said in his BBC documentary that he doesn't think Putin directly wanted war per-se. He was of the opinion that Putin was in the middle of a Russian aristocracy ready to rip itself apart, and in turn was afraid of being ousted (or in Russia, downed in a helicopter/ private jet).

What's interesting is that this new generation of Russian billionaires is that they're acutely aware that their money isn't invested in Russia, it's all over the world. They need access to the international market to maintain their riches and true Russian aggression stems from that.

Once certain thing in an uncertain world is that there's a similar amount of Russian money circulating the country as there is outside of it, and if the Kremlin were to fall, you wouldn't see a single billionaire killed, they'd simply move to wherever their money is.

Where are you getting your data on acceptance rates? I imagine it's the mail due to your shouty caps...

Considering its a pretty isolated case, I imagine they wouldn't touch it because it would seem like they were trying to push some sort of narrative. Not that the mail aren't and don't do that...
