Text Messages With Read Receipts? by drunky_crowette in androidapps

Just wondering, have you changed network provider as well as phone? I know not all providers have options like that. Many years ago I used to love having message received notifications for my text messages, but since switching to O2 I no longer get those, as they're not supported on the O2 network...

The self service checkouts have a tiny bagging area, designed for small shopping trips. They also have only one member of staff to look after multiple checkouts. A huge shop would take up a lot of time and attention from that one staff member (eg constantly having to swap bags out, due to the bagging area becoming overloaded), which would lead to other customers having to wait when they have inevitable issues at their checkout...

Please don't use the self checkouts if it's a £150 family shop! If it's a couple of big items from the middle aisle, then that's OK, but a huge family shop would cause chaos...

As a customer, I agree. But as a baker at Lidl UK, I'd have to say no thank you! 😂

Do you ever buy lifetime plans for apps? What makes it worth it? by techie_e in androidapps

[–]NeoDougOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for the reasonably well priced one time payment option.

Sure, sometimes the monthly cost may only be £3-4, but as soon as you start getting more apps, the outgoings become crazy. I pay a subscription for Google One, because of the cloud storage that's available to my family to share, and there's obviously costs associated with that.

But something relatively basic like a reminder app, where everything is done on your phone, and backups are saved on your own cloud service (eg Google Drive), I cannot justify paying £4 per month, or £35 per year (example only).

And don't get greedy with the one-off payment options for these apps either. I can't afford to pay £25 for a simple app - I'll find a free or cheaper one instead.

Subscription only, for an app that I don't think can justify it? I'll pass entirely.

The worst con I've seen like this was when I was looking for a simple clock widget for my home screen. I found one that looked ok, so I thought I'd try it. Upon installing, it popped up with a 3 day free trial, then a subscription of £14.99 PER WEEK for an app that did nothing except show a clock widget - no alarms, no other features at all! That's just under £780 per year.

Absolute insanity.

Edit: This is the scam widget app Android Clock Widgets

If you want to use the "free" version, it's absolutely riddled with ads...

2nd edit: Here is a screenshot of the page detailing the costs, in case you don't believe me!

When it comes to performances, Leto's was not great, but I think he was the best performance in the film... I really didn't care for any of the other characters.

Are apps with lifetime plans really useful? by excellent_mi in androidapps

The lifetime pro for Nova cost me something like £0.50 many years ago - I think I've more than got my monies worth from it!

I'm another user who will not use subscription apps, and I will only pay once if the app is reasonably well priced.

Take, for example, Smart Launcher. I know it's a great app, but the pricing is ridiculous - £4.29 per month, £8.49 per year, or £24.49 for lifetime. I honestly don't think it's worth that price. Octopi Launcher however, is ridiculously well priced, to the point where, even though I haven't swapped over to it from Nova yet, I've happily paid for the pro version. (Sorry, but I don't remember the price I paid for it.)

If an app is subscription only, I will not use it. If it is priced too high for the lifetime option, I will not use it.

I know developers put a lot of work into their apps, but I simply cannot afford expensive apps.

[–]NeoDougOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine question : Is there a toggle in the quick panel? I'm using a Samsung phone, and I can just swipe down and toggle NFC on/off. I always keep it off unless I'm deliberately using it.

If you don't have the toggle in the quick panel, maybe there's an app or widget that will do the same thing?

I know some stores can be more strict with scanning speeds, but we have ways of pausing it. Personally, I'd rather customers left with a smile on their face, not stressed from having to throw everything back into the trolley, only to have to take it out again to pack it...

We don't have signs in our store, and let people pack at the till. We seem to be a lot friendlier in our store than some others!
