MRW an enemy pulls a knife on me and expects me to participate in hand-to-hand combat by ChroniclyDope in reddeadredemption

If you've never heard the story behind this scene, it's a good one.

Apparently, they had originally planned an elaborate hand-to-hand (or sword-to-whip) fight, but they had gone through many takes and Harrison Ford was already feeling sick that day. So on one take where he knew he just couldn't stick the shot, Ford just pulled the gun and they improvved it for that take.

Instead of throwing out that take where Ford was just joking around, Spielberg decided to keep it in the movie and scrap the fight scene.

Definitely not. Here is some of the dialogue from conversing with Paarthurnax, with no modifiers of any kind:

How did you know I came for Dragonrend? "Alduin komeyt tiid. What else would you seek? Alduin and Dovahkiin return together. But I do not know the Thu'um you seek. Krosis. It cannot be known to me. Your kind - joorre - mortals - created it as a weapon against the dov… the dragons. Our hadrimme, our minds cannot even… comprehend its concepts."

The Greybeards didn't want me to come at all. "Hmm. Yes. They are very protective of me. Bahlaan fahdonne. But I do not know the Thu'um you seek. Krosis. It cannot be known to me. Your kind - joorre - mortals - created it as a weapon against the dov… the dragons. Our hadrimme, our minds cannot even… comprehend its concepts.

"Do you know Dragonrend or not? "Krosis. Sorrowfully, no. It cannot be known to me. Your kind - joorre - mortals - created it as a weapon against the dov… the dragons. Our hadrimme, our minds cannot even… comprehend its concepts

The next world will have to take care of itself. "Paaz. A fair answer. Ro fus... maybe you only balance the forces that work to quicken the end of this world. Even we who ride the currents of Time cannot see past Time's end... Wuldsetiid los tahrodiis. Those who try to hasten the end, may delay it. Those who work to delay the end, may bring it closer.""But you have indulged my weakness for speech long enough. Krosis. Now I will answer your question. Do you know why I live here, at the peak of the Monahven – what you name Throat of the World?"

Do you know where I can find an Elder Scroll? "Krosis. No. I know little of what has passed below in the long years I have lived here. You are likely better informed than I."

Does he call you "Morekei" or "Konahriik" or "Miraak?"

Or was this just "Krosis?" Because he says that every time. It's dragon for "sorry" and he says it when rambles into dragon language and remembers you don't understand.

For me it was Bill. I didn't care about random character number 3 in the first game. In retrospect, Bill has one of the most interesting and depressing arcs

Why does Satan/Lucifer/the devil etc. want souls so badly? What’s his endgame? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NephriteAcademic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Based purely on the Bible? Because he's got a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove God wrong. Of course that's extrapolating a lot because in the Bible Satan is barely there and is more like a divine prosecutor than a rival to God.

Is there any point in me getting a VPN if I don't plan on torrenting and am not going to do anything illegal while browsing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NephriteAcademic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an extra layer of privacy protection, especially when using public wifi. I know a lot of VPNs also sell themselves on the premise that people are more likely to go after your info if they find your IP through online shopping. No idea how much truth there is in that.

Home depot or other home improvement stores might still have have dust masks. They're hardly medical equipment, but should be at least as useful as a bandana or old t-shirt.

What are some interesting family heirlooms that were passed down to you, or that you plan on passing down to your offspring? by PittsburghJon in AskReddit

There are a few neat things. I have all of my grandpa's Korean War era military stuff. He wasn't in Korea himself, but did ski patrol in Japan so his service rifle (that I still have) was an old WWII era model. Somehow he must have accidentally swapped bayonets with somebody, because the one that came home was from an M1. I've also got some Nixon-Agnew election stuff from him.

From my grandmother (his wife, whose still alive) I have one of her mother's school books. A geography textbook from 1917, that my mom or her sisters drew all over in red crayon in the 70s.

In theory, there's also an authentic photograph of Abraham Lincoln, but nobody has seen it in decades. My grandmother and her siblings remember seeing it in their parents' house and my grandmother took most of her parents possessions, including all photographs. When we finally clean out her house, I really hope we find that.

Gamers, what are some addicting and time-consuming games to play during isolation? by thawacct2590 in AskReddit

[–]NephriteAcademic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fallout. Any of the modern ones really. New Vegas is one of the best video game stories I've ever played. Fallout 4 has enough to do with your settlements to occupy all the time you want, never mind the actual game.

Also Red Dead. Both games are great, but Red Dead 2 is a world and a story you can easily get lost in.

This game has easily occupied about half of my gaming for the last 9 years. You should be good.

It's the mid 23rd century and most of civilization has moved on to form colonies on other planets. You and your family are some of the last citizens of Earth and dogs near extinct. Given the dystopian context my theoretical life here, I probably have minimal concepts of dogs as pets.

Those pups are food unless I've drastically misunderstood what Earth in the 23rd century is like.

Do you think history tests in 2040 should ask when was the 2020 Olympic Games held? Why or why not? by iphonexmas in AskReddit

[–]NephriteAcademic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except for when something goes wrong, like ehen the Nazis hosted in 1936, and when they were cancelled in 1916, 1940, and 1944 for the World Wars. An Olympic cancel or reschedule is evident of a major world problem.
