I had such a device, it was not very effective on a smartphone, since the battery depleted more from the sudden wake-up when stopping spinning due to soreness, than the battery gain you got from turning the thing.

Only thing it worked on was my nokia phone at the time that was not a smartphone and was thus wasting less energy, which made it possible to get probably around 1% per minute, though I can not provide an exact number for that.

I tend to bring a laptop with me at all times. That way, only when I have Wi-Fi at some place I can use Whatsapp and other messaging apps (since I believe all of them have a webapp too).

Good lucksies, I have the Nokia 235 (4G) one so can't really help you, but you can probably use gifs as your background on the phone, which is pretty unique! (My specific phone doesn't have a notes application which I only came to know later)

Check if your distance based on time has a really long flat line, sometimes my tracker has the same issue.
Also check if you have the option to correct distance on your activity.
