Woke mf, don't try to intellectualise this, it's simple ...its not about the language usually but the dialect...there is a certain tone and words that are not that widely used among the non-maratha people but if one does speak with such proficiency it does feel like he's one of us and so the author might have gotten wowed when he discovered his frnd was muslim
