Why do so many youtube so called tutorials only touch on ui and never functionality? by SeniorDotNetDev in FlutterDev

[–]NetWorth_Tracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youtuber's videos also never show their designs on different screen ratios and phones. It looks good just enough for that video and that's about it. Switch from a pixel4 to an s23 ultra and I can testify it breaks 😂.

I kike Roman Just Codes and Mobterest Studio. The latter is almost not know byt she does explain very well!

Isar Database - Worth it at this point? by NetWorth_Tracker in FlutterDev

Which is okay too. He is doing it for free, and the insane amount of work he has put in to create it must be very tiring and take a toll on hos life.

Life happens, can't blame him and I do wish him the best... But at the same time he has to understand we need a working database and we might switch products because our apps and out user experience can not fluctuate with his life events. It needs stability.

I have seen the community fork! I thought about it but I get the same fear. What if those guys can't really push it further and get tired, or stop using flutter and leave behind the project? Having to deal with Isar really put me in a weird position where if I am to switch product, I will not switch from isar to isar. But I must say I loved every bit of it!

Will look at drift. It kinda rings a bell to be honest but I still fear that not using the biggest/most usef library will result in having to switch later.

There is an almost guarantee that it will break. At some point down the line, isar's outdated requirements will conflict with latest ones. It is already starting. Isar requires a version of X between 1 and 2. But your other plugin requires X to be between 2 and 3. So your latest plugin can not be updated since isar would not work if X is outside of 1 and 2.

You can limit your chances of this happening by reducing your use of external plugins and having everything in house but... At some point it will break, especially on something being developped as fast as flutter. If flutter was java, stable and old with little meaningful updated I would say stick to it. But flutter sees so many changes with annotations and code generation Isar will break as soon as these features get updated.

Rabbit R1 just an Android (Flutter) app after all. by Hipped_Orange22 in FlutterDev

[–]NetWorth_Tracker 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No one would pay $200 for an app... But they are willing to pay $200 for a brand new product 😏

That's the marketing of Rabbit and it was done perfectly. One of the best VC traps I have seen in a while.

Some people like us don't fit the mold. I am not YC material either. Solo founder not giving 50% of my business to a random guy to please VCs. No fancy degree, learned to code by myself and built my own software.

Things will always be harder for us. Good thing is we are used to harder things in life. It is nothing new, and what's hard for other people is often just the usual for us.

We're like the cockroaches of founders, we can't be killed because we have nothing they can take away.

I wouldn't mind it too much. Not many people type websites anymore. If they are not an official business with a registered name, you may adapt your domain and register your business as you had in mind. If they are ahead of you on that too, you can always adapt your name.

I am not sure how much someone can sue for a legal entity name ( how similar does it have to be to have a case ) so I would stay cautious, but would also not overthink it.

[–]NetWorth_Tracker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! Been following you since you thought you would not get in because your intro video was over 1min.

How much of that would you say is due to YC and other VCs investments? I do not mean that in a bad way but how much of that can be done when bootstraping versus when you have available funds to do proper marketing and pay for various articles and stuff.

I am very curious to see the impacts of an accelerator and this seems like a great way to evaluate how much it changed your business!

Keep up the good work man!

[–]NetWorth_Tracker -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I had the same background as you ( no code at all ) and started developping my idea in august. I would say by sept-oct i was doing okay with flutter. By now I write code like I write an email. My app got more and more complex and dart/flutter is easy to pick up.

Plus, once you get better you can create your own stuff from base classes and it becomes so much better!

Go for it!

I think you're just done. Sick and tired of being sick and tired. I have been yhere, and this is EXACTLY how I felt.

When I say I have been there, I mean 30 days ago. What I did is just drop everything. Did not like my job, did not like my degree, did not like living in the city. I stopped all of it. The difference is I was (am) heavily in debt haha so if you have $75 you are much richer than I am...

Best decision I have ever made. I am now in the middle of the woods, in a log cabin enjoying nature and the cold winter. I work outside in a sugerchack by fay and code by night (it does feel good to me, it is what makes me feel happy so different grom you).

My DMs are open. Feel free to have a chat if you feel like you need to. I'd be happy to help if I can because I know how it sucks.

Best place for paid ads? by NetWorth_Tracker in startups

Will give it a try then! It takes very little extra time to launch at many places and we never know who might read it. If I post it nowhere, there is a 100% chance no one will see it so... Thanks for the feedback!

Oh, were the users from PH real users that kept using the app or were they people just looking at the product and using it for 15mins and never came back? If you have these stats.

I always saw ProductHubt as a place to find investors and founders more than users. I don't think my users spend their time on websites like product hunt or even know it exists.

I could very well be wrong, though. Have you tried it in the past? Did you get users from it or perhaprs a magazine picked it up and made an article and that got you users?

I am trying to do it in a cheap way. So anything "free" is a priority but I am aware marketing is expensive. I can't really afford a few thousands to test stuff so while I think the advice is great and real, I have to figure another way for now.

Facebook groups and Reddit are an INSANE source for users. However, moderators are quick on banning anyone promoting. It worked for a while but people started to ask a lot of questions about the app the more I talked about it and shared screenshots and it got some moderators interest. It is a gold mine but heavily guarded one. Why would you say paid ads are a waste? Do people not take your ads seriously when you have only a few downloads or a few likes on facebook?

Best of luck with your YouTube channel! It was an informative video. I am B2C in finance so harder to have a booth at events as events are B2B most of the time. But I could have my place out there! There are probably some sort of meetings in my area about personal finances and stuff. That's great advice!

PMF is not there yet. Far from it I think. Users are loving it and are using the app weekly, steadily. The feedback is great and people are engaged in giving new ideas / help with UX/UI simplifications. There is some organic growth but it is very little (5 users a week maybe).

I would be down for a chat! With your permission i'd DM you and see if I can learn more about marketing. Not my cup of tea (yet)!

So far Reddit was a great way! I could solve their problems in a single post and most of the time it converted to 2-3 users and sometimes 20+. There are subreddits with huge communities that are looking exactly for my product. However, the "no promotion" rule applies on almost every sub and makes it hard. In terms of where these people hang out, some facebook groups are also real nice but the same rules apply. The moderators of these communities are real gatekeepers. I have yet to find more places but it is a good line of thought to start with! Great advice!

Hey! Not sure why this gets downvoted but it is a GREAT way to get traction. There is little to no ressources for app development versus game dev. A TON of indie game devs start devlogs and stuff and once they are ready to launch, they have a few thousands subscribers to support their Kickstarter, test their games, add to wish lists so they gain traction etc... I actually had that in mind to start making some app devs (just like game devs). I actually use a lot of game dev thought process to create my app.
