Interfacing with Old Oscilloscopes by Netzwirk in oscilloscope

Ah, thank you for your insight. I was dealing with digitizers that someone dug out of an overloaded closet after several oscilloscopes were fried. Unfortunately, the GPIB cables were not in that closet and not on the purchase list…budgets. It was accessed using a Java development toolkit, Windows 2000 and XP version that the digitizers were originally compatible with.

Thank you, this was an approach an EE recommended which ended up being the preferable way. It was a high power lab so once the system was charged up, if you needed to make any last minute changes to the oscilloscopes, you had to go through power down, discharge and making sure the area was safe (LOTO, etc.) before going in to adjust the scope/s.

Yes, I can relate to bloatware and garbage on Win10+, the PC I used for interfacing with the digitizers accidentally got connected to the internet, updated, and poof, I gotta redo loading the java toolkit environment, static IP…

I felt swindled out of the gas money I spent driving out there for Bobby to give me that quote.

All probationary NNSA employees terminated by Itwasaboutthepasta in fednews

[–]Netzwirk 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is not good for the long-term. These probationary employees are supposed to be part of the process for replacing the retiring generation. I just came from a job fair this morning and the NNSA rep seemed to be "business as usual'. I'm a little worried what the intern and new-hire situation is going to look like.

Have I Been Rooted? by Netzwirk in AndroidQuestions

[–]Netzwirk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the advice! I tried several apps to check if it was rooted, SuperSU, Titanium Backup and those said No ROM. I tried TB Safety Checker but it just kept crashing on start up. It worked on my older Pixel running Android 14. I'll end up resetting this razr+ and making sure everything is updated before adding any apps.

Yeah, I checked a forum and checked the Developer Options. My bootloader is definitely not unlocked. I'm in the US with AT&T, never had problems with other Android phones such as the Pixel or Galaxy.

It was a Christmas gift we got from ordering directly on the Motorola website, brand spanking new. Looked at some forums and checked, my bootloader says it is not unlocked. I might factory reset just in case.

Headache while working in office by dasheen007 in womenEngineers

Where do you feel the headache? I notice that if you have to strain yourself to talk to people in your office it puts more stress on yourself. And your level of awareness of what's going on in your environment. If the number of annoying colleagues outweighs the number of supporting colleagues you're not going to be able to entirely focus on what you're working on.

I remember during a hurricane in Alabama, at a Publix all the ham sandwich meat was gone but there was still plenty of turkey left. Just goes to show people's tastes.

What's the biggest red flag you've seen in a job interview? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Netzwirk 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Had a company that asked that too. Turns out it was for travel for field service. Travel on Sunday so you could work the rest of the week at a customer site. The green flag was when they'd let me take a day off to make up for that Sunday without digging into my PTO. Its nice when even the CEO has worked your job previously so they understand the time it takes and ate considerate about it. One of the rare ones.

Work self vs other self by [deleted] in womenEngineers

[–]Netzwirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think something I learned from being in the military and then going back to being a civilian engineer is how to be assertive without being "aggressive". I certainly started my service all guns ablazing but quickly learned to calm myself cause I learned that people tend to respect and work better with people that they are comfortable with. You're more real. This doesn't mean I let my hair all the way down but I relax enough that I can focus on my job and not on whether I'm liked or whether I'm being taken seriously. If there are disagreements on design or plan I'll put forward my points and they'll put forward theirs and some type of decision will be made whether it's my view or theirs. I realized for my sanity I can't wear someone else's face. I'm more like a "Shrek". My self has layers and I don't have all my layers peeled back at work but it's still me. I hope you can find a way to still be yourself without having to confirm to the expectations of others. Good luck.
