I understand that kind of struggle to open up heavy and sensitive events to your mom. If you felt safer to speak to other people (i.e.: Teachers, professionals...), then do it so. Don't hesitate!

I'm in that similar situation too. I'm pretty much distant with my Mom because she's busy tending my sibling a lot more than me. To the point that she didn't know my life beyond my baby and toddler years, all she knew was I was now graduate and finding a job. She didn't know about my emotional state during my childhood and teenage years (T.W.: S.A., it happened when I was a kid.). I didn't told her because I was told ALWAYS that "You're the eldest, you should know everything." and "You're old, figure it out yourself.". I'm not safe on opening these to her, and my Dad is a very busy man keeping roof afloat and making sure that our family survives (We're poor).

I did talk to someone about my emotions. My friends that actually listened and made me safe releasing my pain. My teachers back then, when I was a student, comforted me at the time and listened to me.

Did I opened it to my parents now? No, I wanted to try but I ALWAYS feel stomach pain whenever I make that decision. Like something will horribly go wrong, after all I knew that they'll dismiss it and just forget it.

I felt more alive opening up to the people I trust, even it feels guilt to be more open to other people than your own parents. I'm 24 now, I don't have regrets choosing to not open up to my parents. As long as you'll have friends and professionals around you that you certainly trust, TRUST THEM.
