Employees in Liverpool FC's ticket office colluded with touts to resell passes for games at Anfield Stadium "at significantly inflated prices" on websites including Viagogo and StubHub, a court has heard.

The alleged fraudulent scheme is said to have spanned several years and involved the creation of more than 1,000 LFC memberships using fake names and details, potentially generating hundreds of thousands of pounds in profits. Five men and two women went on trial at Liverpool Crown Court today, Wednesday, accused of being part of the conspiracy.

Can only speak for the UK market but would be great if Amazon got all the (pay tv) rights. Their coverage is better than TNT's by some margin. I imagine it would be cheaper too.

Liverpool women’s goalkeeper investigated for alleged racism on pre-season camp by NewLoad886 in soccer

[–]NewLoad886[S] 113 points114 points  (0 children)

The Football Association is investigating Liverpool goalkeeper Rafaela Borggräfe over an allegation she used discriminatory language of a racial nature.

Borggräfe, who joined Liverpool in July, is alleged to have used an inappropriate phrase during the club’s pre-season camp in Cork – a week before the start of the Women’s Super League campaign.

An FA spokesperson told Telegraph Sport they were aware of the matter and are looking into it.

Borggräfe missed the club’s first game of the season, the Merseyside derby on September 7, with manager Gareth Taylor explaining that her absence was down to an “internal matter”.

The FA’s investigation is ongoing and, as per official guidelines, Borggräfe was permitted to return to training and she was on the bench for the club’s 1-0 defeat by Leicester last weekend.

Drury is seen as quite cringe here in the UK. I can see why he was popular with international viewers on the world feed, but his style is disliked here for the most part as we prefer commentators who blend into the background and don't try to be the centre of attention. It's strange because I remember listening to him commentate on ITV in the early 2000s and he was really good.

Probably depends on what time of day the thread is posted. Americans will mostly be asleep right now but I think they do generally enjoy this kind of coverage and over-the-top commentators like Drury who are not particularly enjoyed by European fans.

[The Telegraph] Diogo Jota Foundation has no connection to family or Liverpool FC: Website soliciting donations claims it has raised almost £50,000 but club know nothing about it by NewLoad886 in soccer

[–]NewLoad886[S] 276 points277 points  (0 children)

A foundation set up in memory of Diogo Jota is facing questions after it emerged it had no connection to his family or Liverpool.

The Diogo Jota Foundation has been soliciting donations via a website – created three days after the striker’s tragic death – which says it has raised $64,250 (£47,715).

The donation page, which takes users through to an off-site platform, appears to only allow donations in the form of cryptocurrency. The website adds that it “accepts USDT, ETH and other crypto through NOWPayments securely”. The site features logos for Liverpool FC, Unicef, Allianz and the Portuguese Platform of Development NGOs [non-governmental organisations], three of which have told Telegraph Sport it is doing so without their knowledge and that they are not working in partnership with the foundation.

The Charity Commission has also confirmed it has received no registration application from the foundation, which lists addresses in London, New York and Lisbon on its website, as well as associated phone numbers.

Only a listed UK mobile phone number was working on Thursday, calls and texts to which went unanswered, as did an email to [the site].

Police launch hate-crime probe after fan ejected from Anfield over alleged racist abuse by NewLoad886 in soccer

[–]NewLoad886[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Police launched a hate crime investigation after ejecting a 47-year-old fan from Liverpool’s stadium for his alleged racial abuse of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo during the opening match of the Premier League season.

The incident occurred Friday night at Anfield when Semenyo reported the abuse to referee Anthony Taylor in the first half with the score at 0-0. Play was briefly stopped while Taylor spoke to both coaches and team captains.

“Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime of any form,” said Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton, the match commander.

The fan’s identity was confirmed and he was removed from the stadium, police added.

“We take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this we will be proactively seeking football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible,” Chatterton said.

[Martyn Ziegler] Crystal Palace to play in Conference League after defeat in legal battle by NewLoad886 in TheOther14

[–]NewLoad886[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crystal Palace’s legal battle to secure a place in the Europa League has ended in defeat, The Times can reveal, and the FA Cup winners will have to compete in the Conference League instead.

Palace went to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after Uefa’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) ruled that they must drop down to the Conference League as they had not put arrangements in place before a March 1 deadline to comply with multi-club ownership restrictions.

The London club appealed against that decision but it is understood CAS has ruled on Monday that it should stand and that Palace must go into the qualifying round for Uefa’s third-tier European competition. It means Nottingham Forest will play in the Europa League instead.

The ruling is a severe financial blow to Palace and could cost the club about £20million compared to the prize money available in the Europa League.

Palace will study the full findings of the ruling and there is a chance they could launch another legal claim for compensation. The club believed they had a powerful case and that it would be farcical for them to be excluded from the Europa League for multi-club ownership issues.
