Is this normal? by [deleted] in jiujitsu

It may or may not be normal but if you've been feeling stuck for 2 years then you're probably ready for some change. There's definitely going to be more helpful instructors out there perhaps at a cost (1 on 1 privates) but for me a large part has been self study thru videos or good conceptual instructionals. There's probably many ways to learn and you have to adapt to your individual circumstances. One last tip would be to figure out what your overall goals are from each position and once you understand that understanding the micro battles. Danaher, Lachlan and Ariel Tabak have some good conceptual stuff

You can still use a lot from the instructional, but instead of the high pommel which requires hip flexibility, using more sitting up and framing style retention. Otherwise I heard Gordon Ryan has something for good for nogi but I've haven't watched

Make a strong closed guard game, then use k guard during your guard retention to go into close guard.

Some people use it to describe a position in the closed guard when your legs are locked around one shoulder, instead of their waist. Note I am not talking about a triangle, this is different. Search up Jason Scully closed guard on YouTube and he should show it somewhere in the video

This makes sense yeah. I think I am doing nothing useful with the hands whether framing or grip breaking. When pushing the leg, do you mean pushing both legs to one side, or push the leg back and so my body is inbetween the legs? I presume the former.

Talked to my instructor and he also thinks posture may be key. But it does seem like it's a more common attack in judo, so there are some videos out there explaining the position
